Job Description

Utilities Maintenance Technician Groton CT Schedule:
Mon-Fr, 7a-3p Position Summary The Utilities Maintenance Technician serves as a subject matter expert responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and optimizing utility plant equipment in a highly regulated cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role supports the reliability and performance of boilers, chillers, steam systems, compressed air systems, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, and associated utility infrastructure. Maintenance Execution & Technical Expertise Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair high-pressure boilers, steam turbines, industrial chillers, boiler feedwater systems, cooling towers, compressed air and gas systems, vacuum systems, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and related utility equipment. Perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance activities. Utilize vibration analysis, infrared thermography, ultrasonic testing, oil analysis, borescope inspections, and laser alignment technologies. Maintain and optimize cooling tower systems, steam systems, feedwater systems, compressed air systems, and heat exchangers. Respond to emergency maintenance issues and provide timely updates to stakeholders. Compliance, Safety, Documentation & Quality Perform all work in compliance with applicable safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements. Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, fall protection, and other required safety procedures. Maintain accurate CMMS documentation, including work orders, parts consumption, labor hours, findings, and corrective actions. Support internal audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities. Continuous Improvement & Team Support Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and corrective actions. Collaborate with engineering, operations, EHS, vendors, and project teams. Support equipment upgrades, installations, commissioning activities, and outage planning. Mentor junior technicians and contribute to SOP and procedure development. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum 5-7 years of industrial maintenance experience supporting utility plants, power generation, boiler/chiller facilities, or pharmaceutical utility operations.
Experience maintaining and troubleshooting:
High-pressure boilers Steam turbines and auxiliaries Electric and absorption chillers Cooling towers Air and gas compressors Heat exchangers Pumps, steam traps, control valves, and pneumatic systems Experience using predictive maintenance technologies including vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound, and oil analysis. Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, mechanical drawings, and OEM documentation. Valid driver's license. Ability to support overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations. Required Licenses & Certifications Connecticut S-1 or S-2 Heating, Piping, and Cooling (HPC) License or equivalent recognized credential. EPA Section 608 Universal Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. Preferred Qualifications Pharmaceutical, biotech, or cGMP manufacturing experience. Additional stationary engineer or boiler operator licensing. CMRT, CMRP, vibration analysis, or infrared thermography certifications. Welding, pipefitting, millwright, or boilermaker experience. Gas turbine, CHP/cogeneration, or waste heat recovery experience.
