Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and organized Building Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. This position receives general direction Under the direction of the Building Superintendent, maintains and repairs Town buildings, facilities, tide gates and parking lots. This is a broad classification with individual positions assigned to specific functional areas; duties and assignments may overlap depending on the operational needs of the department and staffing levels. Responsibilities
  • Inspect buildings, facilities, and grounds regularly to identify, resolve, and document faults in structures and systems, ensuring adherence to safety standards and building codes.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks, including painting, plumbing repairs (e.g., unclogging drains and fixing leaks), and HVAC system maintenance and repair (e.g., replacing parts, minor installations).
  • Repair and refurbish structural damages, worn-out fittings, electrical systems (e.g., replacing switches and outlets), and lock systems on doors, files, cabinets, and lockers.
  • Maintain and inspect outdoor areas such as roofs, parking lots, sidewalks, and gutters, including cleaning drains and performing snow removal or pest control as needed.
  • Load, unload, and manage inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment; requisition of additional materials as needed.
  • Repair locking systems on doors, files, cabinets and lockers, travel from site to site
  • Respond promptly and courteously to emergency calls, staff inquiries, or complaints, providing timely solutions and updates.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Monitor and document inspection, repair, and maintenance activities electronically for future reference and compliance.
  • Perform moderate or light lifting and carrying, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; bending, stooping, kneeling, setting up and climbing of all types and sizes of ladders, crawling; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
  • Travel between sites as necessary to perform maintenance duties and address operational needs.
  • Must be able to operate a variety of hand and power equipment in a safe and effective manner

Requirements Certifications:
Must have and maintain: Valid Driver's license HVAC Certification (Preferred): While not explicitly mentioned, certification in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (e.g., EPA Section 608 Certification) may be advantageous for maintaining and repairing HVAC systems. Electrical Certification (Preferred): A general electrical certification or license may enhance qualifications for performing electrical repairs safely and in compliance with building codes.
