Job Description
Department Maintenance Reports To Maintenance Manager Position Summary The Entry-Level Maintenance Technician assists in maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving manufacturing equipment, utilities, and facility systems within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This position provides hands-on support to ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and maintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety regulations, and company procedures. This role is ideal for individuals looking to begin a career in industrial maintenance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist senior maintenance technicians with preventative and corrective maintenance on manufacturing and packaging equipment. Perform routine inspections of production equipment and facility systems. Learn to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment under supervision. Complete preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules. Replace basic components such as belts, filters, hoses, bearings, and sensors. Maintain maintenance tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner. Document maintenance activities accurately in maintenance management systems and equipment logs. Support equipment installations, modifications, and improvement projects. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), GMP guidelines, and safety policies. Assist in maintaining HVAC systems, compressed air systems, water systems, and other facility utilities as directed. Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner. Participate in equipment startup, shutdown, and changeover activities. Work collaboratively with Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and other departments. Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training programs. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Technical school, vocational training, or maintenance certification preferred. Previous mechanical aptitude, internship, or manufacturing experience is a plus but not required. Basic understanding of hand tools and power tools. Willingness to learn industrial maintenance practices. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to follow written procedures and work instructions. Basic computer skills. Ability to work independently after training and as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments. Basic knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical systems, plumbing, or HVAC. Familiarity with GMP, OSHA, or FDA-regulated environments is preferred but not required. Forklift certification (or ability to obtain certification). Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb ladders and work on elevated platforms. Ability to bend, kneel, squat, and reach as required. Ability to work in varying temperatures and manufacturing environments. Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Work Environment Pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Exposure to moving mechanical equipment, cleaning chemicals, and manufacturing processes. May require occasional overtime, weekends, or on-call support to meet production demands.
