OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB
Provide general maintenance and repair of airport runways, taxiways, drainage systems, fence lines, landscape, buildings, and grounds in order to preserve and improve functionality, security, safety and aesthetics.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday; 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a 1 hour lunch period.

  • ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs general grounds maintenance as required. Operates vehicles, tractors, loaders, dump truck, bucket truck and other equipment, for which trained. Operates power tools and miscellaneous hand tools. Cuts grass, trims weeds, removes brush and debris as needed. Makes repairs to damaged or malfunctioning equipment. Stocks supplies; loads and unloads items as needed. Transports materials to/from proper locations within the airport grounds or offsite as necessary. Installs equipment as needed. Changes light bulbs as needed. Paints required fixtures, buildings and other objects as directed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Attends work on continuous and regular basis
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of high school degree or GED equivalent plus six months experience in either the building trades or building and grounds maintenance, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to acquire the skills necessary to operate a full complement of maintenance vehicles and equipment on airport and surrounding property, to include an active airfield, safely and without threat to aircraft, people and self. Physical strength and agility sufficient to permit working overhead, and with equipment or objects weighing over 30 pounds. Must have ability to lift up to 100 pounds as necessary. Must be able to read and understand the English language and speak in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a fingerprint-based criminal history check, TSA Security Threat Assessment and personal background check prior to employment.
  • Compliance with all personnel policies.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
  • Valid Florida Driver's license required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Knowledge of the methods, tools and practices used in general maintenance and construction. Knowledge of general practices applied in care and safe operation of a wide variety of maintenance equipment. Knowledge and ability to detect defects in equipment and make proper adjustments and emergency repairs. Ability to perform manual labor related to operation of motorized equipment. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and required safety precautions, and the ability to exercise care and use of various tools and equipment. Possession of a Commercial Driver's License or the ability to obtain a CDL within one year, if requested. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to function independently, have flexibility, and work effectively with clients, co-workers and others. NOTES The Gainesville Regional Airport is a Drug-Free Workplace. Consent to random drug testing is required. Requires emotional resilience, physical strength, agility, and the stamina to perform demanding tasks in varying conditions. Work requires performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions. Work may require performing tasks in close proximity to aircraft ground operations or vehicle traffic. Work may require exposure to hazardous conditions and noxious chemicals. Work may require exposure to prolonged high noise levels.
