Position Function:
Under the direction of the Facility Maintenance Superintendent, performs duties necessary to support the Facilities Maintenance Division to ensure the proper repair, and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and grounds.
Essential Duties:
Performs duties necessary to support the Facility Maintenance Division to ensure the proper repair, and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and grounds. Duties include, but are not limited to, installation or moving of furniture and office equipment; changing air filters; window and door caulking and/or weatherizing; painting; replacement or repair of broken items (e.g. windows, doors, locks, etc.); power washing windows, sidewalks and exterior walls; and grounds maintenance. Responsible for safely using and proper care and maintenance of all tools and equipment necessary to complete projects, assignments, and/or tasks. Performs duties to ensure the proper cleanliness, orderliness, and general maintenance of City buildings, facilities, and grounds. Duties include but are not limited to, trash and debris removal; vacuuming, waxing, mopping, and sweeping floors; cleaning and disinfecting toilets and sinks; sweeping sidewalks and walkways; and shampooing and/or steam cleaning carpets and rugs. Assists with repair and maintenance of the interior of buildings and facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with carpentry; carpet and flooring repair and installation; running wire and/or cable; electrical repair (e.g. ballast and fixture repair and/or installation, light bulb replacements, etc.); and plumbing (e.g. unclogging toilets, repair faucet and/or pipe leaks, etc.). Performs duties necessary to support and prepare for City-wide events through constructing and/or deconstructing fencing, barricades, chairs, and stages, as well as "set-up" and "tear-down" tasks. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Required knowledge and experience are normally obtained through the completion of a curriculum resulting in either a High School Diploma or GED, and three (3) to five (5) years work related experience are required. Construction, electrical, and/or plumbing experience is preferred. Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety. Must be able to communicate and present oneself in a professional manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City employees' officials, and the general public. Ability to take and follow oral instructions. Ability to read and understand instructions and/or manuals. Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and pressure in a fast-paced work environment. Ability to work during weekends and nighttime events and hours of operation. Ability to perform manual labor. Skilled in operating landscaping equipment, and handheld and/or power tools. Knowledge or ability to learn basic electrical and/or plumbing, as cited above.
Other Requirements:
Must possess a Valid Florida Class E driver's license. Must pass applicable pre-employment testing and background and credit checks. Ability to obtain a class CDL within twelve (12) months of hire.

This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
