Job Description

Facilities & Maintenance Contract Notice Creston Community Schools is seeking an individual interested in learning and eventually leading the district's facilities and maintenance operations. This opportunity is designed as a succession and transition position. The successful candidate will work directly with the district's current facilities Director, Gary Briley, to learn the district's buildings, mechanical systems, equipment, preventive maintenance practices, vendors, emergency procedures, and seasonal facility needs. Gary has provided the district with extensive knowledge and experience over many years. His understanding of our facilities and mechanical systems, ability to identify concerns before they become larger problems, and commitment to responsible stewardship have provided significant value to the District. The District's goal is to intentionally transfer that knowledge and experience to the next generation of facilities leadership. Beginning January 1, 2027, the selected individual will initially work with the district in a contracted capacity while learning the responsibilities and operations of the position.

During this transition period, the individual will: ? Work directly alongside Gary Briley.

? Learn the district's buildings, grounds, mechanical systems, equipment, and infrastructure.

? Develop an understanding of the district's preventive maintenance practices.

? Learn the history and operation of district facilities.

? Become familiar with district vendors, contractors, warranties, and service relationships.

? Participate in troubleshooting and maintenance activities.

? Learn emergency and after-hours response procedures.

? Experience the district's seasonal maintenance needs.

? Develop an understanding of maintenance priorities and available resources.

? Assist with identifying and addressing facility concerns before they become larger or more costly problems.

? Build the knowledge and skills necessary to assume responsibility for the district's facilities and maintenance operations. The district anticipates transitioning the successful candidate to district employment as the Maintenance Director beginning July 1, 2027, subject to the district's employment process and Board approval. Gary would continue to provide contracted support during the transition period, allowing the new Maintenance Director to continue accessing his knowledge and experience while assuming increasing responsibility for the district's facilities and maintenance operations. This approach is intended to provide approximately one full year of intentional succession planning and allow the successful candidate to experience the district's facilities across different seasons, circumstances, and operational needs.

The ideal candidate is an individual who: ? Has experience or demonstrated interest in building and mechanical maintenance.

? Is mechanically capable and comfortable learning new systems.

? Is dependable, responsive, and willing to take ownership of responsibilities. ? Has strong problem-solving skills.

? Is able to work independently while communicating effectively with district leadership and staff.

? Understands the importance of preventive maintenance.

? Is willing to learn from an experienced facilities professional.

? Takes pride in maintaining buildings and facilities.

? Is committed to serving students, staff, and the District.

? Is interested in developing into a long-term facilities leadership role. Prior experience in school facilities is helpful but not required. The district is particularly interested in individuals with strong mechanical aptitude, maintenance experience, problem-solving ability, and a willingness to learn. The initial transition period will be established through an individual contract with Creston Community Schools. Compensation and work expectations will be discussed with qualified candidates. Successful completion of the transition period may lead to employment with Creston Community Schools as the district's Maintenance Director beginning July 1, 2027. Individuals interested in this opportunity should complete the online application found at this link https://creston.schoolspring.com/ by 3:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2026. Questions regarding this opportunity may be directed to Superintendent Deron Stender at dstender@crestonschools.org. Creston Community Schools is committed to making this transition intentional and ensuring that the knowledge, responsiveness, and stewardship that have served the district so well continue into the future. The goal is not simply to fill a position, but to develop the next person who will know and care for our facilities as Gary has.
