Job Description

Hotel Maintenance Technician - Full Time | Element West Des Moines Job Summary Element West Des Moines is seeking a dependable, proactive, and hands-on Full-Time Maintenance Technician to join our hotel team. This position plays an important role in maintaining the overall condition, appearance, safety, and functionality of the property. The Maintenance Technician will handle a variety of preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and general property upkeep throughout guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces. We are looking for someone with general maintenance experience or a strong willingness to learn and develop additional skills. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, comfortable working independently, and enjoys identifying problems and finding practical solutions. Responsibilities Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance throughout the hotel Complete general repairs in guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces Perform drywall patching, repair, and basic finish work Complete painting, touch-ups, and other cosmetic property repairs Repair and maintain grout, caulking, tile, and other interior finishes Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance of PTAC heating and cooling units Replace filters and assist with routine HVAC-related preventative maintenance Complete basic plumbing repairs, including minor leaks, fixtures, drains, and other common hotel maintenance needs Troubleshoot basic electrical issues and replace items such as switches, outlets, fixtures, and bulbs when appropriate Inspect hotel equipment, fixtures, and building systems and identify maintenance needs Respond promptly and professionally to guest room and departmental maintenance requests Assist with furniture, fixtures, equipment, and property improvement projects Use hand tools, power tools, and other maintenance equipment safely and appropriately Maintain maintenance tools, supplies, work areas, and inventory in an organized manner Document completed maintenance and preventative maintenance work as required Follow all hotel safety procedures and applicable maintenance best practices Communicate maintenance concerns and larger repair needs to hotel leadership Assist other hotel departments with maintenance-related needs as necessary Qualifications Previous experience in hotel maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, handyman work, or a related field preferred Experience with or willingness to learn drywall repair, painting, grout, caulking, and basic PTAC troubleshooting General knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and building maintenance preferred Basic electrical knowledge is a plus Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Comfortable using hand tools and basic power tools Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and complete tasks in a timely manner Dependable, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and well-maintained property Ability to communicate professionally with guests, coworkers, vendors, and hotel leadership Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, lift, carry, and move throughout the workday Hotel maintenance experience is helpful but not required What We Offer Full-time employment Team-oriented work environment Employee hotel discounts through Marriott Opportunities to develop additional maintenance and building systems skills Opportunities for growth within the hospitality industry 401(k) 401(k) matching Employee discount Retirement plan
