POSITION SUMMARY
Maintenance Mechanic (Diesel Mechanic) is responsible for ensuring the consistent operation and quality performance of SME's equipment, machinery, and facilities through effective troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance. This role includes performing both emergency and unscheduled repairs during production, as well as scheduled maintenance during off-hours. The Maintenance Mechanic possesses a broad range of technical skills, which may include mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair across various systems, including production line equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts, welding tools, packaging machinery, and other related equipment. The individual is proficient in interpreting work orders to carry out necessary maintenance and services and may consult equipment manuals as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures optimal operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by performing preventive maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines. This includes interpreting diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturer guidelines, and engineering specifications while troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. Conducts preventive maintenance on a wide range of equipment. Monitors equipment performance to proactively reduce unscheduled downtime and improve operational reliability. Identifies sources of mechanical issues by observing equipment in operation, detecting abnormalities, and utilizing precision measuring and diagnostic tools. Removes and replaces defective components by disassembling equipment using hoists, cranes, and hand or power tools, and by examining parts for wear or damage. Evaluates dimensional accuracy of components by inspecting worn parts with calipers, micrometers, and other instruments, and adjusts machinery accordingly using appropriate tools. Manages equipment, parts, and supply inventory by regularly assessing stock levels, forecasting maintenance needs, placing and expediting orders, and verifying deliveries. Utilizes advanced technical knowledge and experience to enhance maintenance methods and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Maintains a safe and orderly work environment by adhering to all safety protocols, operational procedures, and regulatory guidelines. Fully complies with OSHA safety and health standards specific to the role and working conditions. Provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior maintenance technicians, addressing questions and sharing expertise. Performs additional duties and responsibilities assigned to support maintenance and production goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to perform each essential duty daily. Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and the maturity required to operate equipment safely and responsibly. Possesses strong technical aptitude with the ability to diagnose issues related to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems and circuitry. Proficient in interpreting and applying information from mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals. Capable of clear verbal and written communication with co-workers, maintenance supervisors, production supervisors, and quality inspectors. Exhibits advanced knowledge of industrial machinery operations and related systems. Well-versed in components and processes such as bearings, gears, drive systems, power transmission, metal fabrication, tool room machining, and heat treatment of mechanical parts. Skilled in the maintenance and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and equipment. Demonstrates proven mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting abilities across a variety of industrial systems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
: Must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to lift and carry up to 65 lbs. regularly. Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods. Physically fit to work in an industrial environment and tolerate exposure to varying physical conditions. Must be able to work extended hours when necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
: Industrial warehouse and manufacturing environment with heavy machinery, and overhead cranes. Use of PPE such as gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear is required. Interaction with team members, leads, and supervisors is frequent and necessary.
