Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description This role oversees and contributes to the maintenance of an advanced manufacturing facility, with approximately 60% of the work focused on CNC machine maintenance, 30% on facility upkeep, and 10% on supervising a small team of maintenance technicians. The position requires a hands-on, technically strong professional who ensures equipment reliability, supports safe and efficient operations, and provides leadership within the maintenance team. Responsibilities Perform and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance on a large fleet of CNC machines to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues on CNC machinery and auxiliary equipment. Maintain detailed and accurate records of machine maintenance activities, repairs, and service history. Oversee and assist with maintenance of building systems, including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and electrical infrastructure. Ensure the facility remains safe, clean, and compliant with applicable codes, standards, and regulations. Coordinate and communicate with external vendors and service providers for specialized facility services when required. Lead, schedule, and support a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring effective coverage and task completion. Provide training, mentorship, and constructive performance feedback to maintenance team members. Promote and enforce adherence to safety protocols, procedures, and company policies across all maintenance activities. Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to plan, track, and document maintenance work. Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to diagnose issues and plan repairs. Collaborate with production and other departments to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize impact on operations. Essential Skills At least 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience, preferably in a CNC machining or manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of CNC machinery, including mechanical and control systems. Proven experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment. Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including three-phase systems and motors. Solid understanding of mechanical systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics. Experience with HVAC systems and facility-related maintenance tasks. Ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and perform basic PLC diagnostics. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints. Proficiency with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools for documentation and communication. Strong troubleshooting skills with a methodical and analytical approach to problem-solving. Effective communication skills to collaborate with technicians, production staff, and external vendors. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and maintenance schedules. Demonstrated ability to work safely around machinery and industrial equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in a lead or supervisory maintenance role. Experience training and mentoring maintenance technicians. Background in welding and fabrication for equipment repair and modification. Familiarity with maintenance repair best practices in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Comfort working with PLC controls and related automation components. Ability to coordinate and oversee external contractors and service providers. Strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining high standards of equipment reliability and facility upkeep. Work Environment This is a full-time position in a busy manufacturing facility that operates advanced CNC equipment and supporting building systems. The role may require occasional overtime or weekend work to support production needs and complete critical maintenance tasks. You will use tools and technologies such as CNC machines, HVAC systems, electrical and mechanical equipment, PLC-controlled systems, welding equipment, CMMS software, and standard office applications to perform your duties effectively. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Arlington Heights, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
