Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician supports operations in a high-tech automated warehouse environment by maintaining and troubleshooting robotic forklifts, palletizing arms, conveyor systems, and racking infrastructure. This role requires a strong mechanical and electrical experience, hands-on problem-solving, and the ability to work confidently in a fast-paced, technology-driven setting. Responsibilities Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on robotic forklifts, palletizing arms, conveyor systems, and racking systems to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and PLC-related issues across automated systems and take timely corrective action. Monitor system performance, respond to real-time alerts and faults, and take appropriate steps to stabilize and restore operations. Collaborate with remote support and engineering teams to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues. Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and system updates in accordance with operational standards. Support system upgrades, installations, and commissioning of new automation and robotic equipment as needed. Follow and promote safety protocols and operational standards while working around robotics, conveyors, racking, and other equipment. Operate and interact with automation systems using touchscreens, computers, and mobile devices as part of daily maintenance and troubleshooting. Conduct routine inspections of racking and robotic systems, identifying potential issues before they impact production. Communicate clearly with operations and warehouse teams regarding equipment status, repair timelines, and any impacts on production. Essential Skills At least 1 year of manufacturing experience in a mechanic, auto mechanic, or entry-level maintenance role. Hands-on mechanical skills with experience in maintenance, repair, and machine operation in a production or manufacturing environment. Ability to perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on automated and robotic systems. Comfort working with automation, robotics, and high-tech warehouse equipment. Proficiency using touchscreens, computers, and mobile phones to interface with systems, diagnostics, and maintenance tools. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and propose practical solutions. Reliable attendance and a consistent work history demonstrating dependability. Ability to work safely in environments with tall racking structures and restricted spaces. Capability to work in temperatures ranging from 32°F to 105°F within a warehouse environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or completion of a trade school program is preferred. Experience with preventive maintenance programs in manufacturing or distribution settings. Familiarity with PLC-related issues and basic understanding of controls in automated systems. Exposure to robotics, automated racking systems, and high-volume distribution operations. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and remote support teams. Strong communication skills to clearly document maintenance activities and convey technical information. Work Environment This role is based in a large, automated distribution center that incorporates advanced racking systems, multiple robotic arm cells in inbound and outbound operations, and approximately 300 mobile robots. Robotic arms break down large inbound pallets and restack individual products, wrapping them for outbound shipment, while mobile robots navigate the racking system to retrieve products for orders. Some racking structures reach heights of up to 45 feet and include restrictive areas as narrow as 24 inches. The work environment is protected from weather but may not be temperature controlled, and you must be comfortable working in conditions ranging from 32°F to 105°F. Shifts include 1st Shift (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday-Friday) and 3rd Shift (6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday-Friday), supporting continuous warehouse and distribution operations around advanced automation technologies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Melrose Park, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
