Job Description

he Elkhart Housing Authority (EHA) is seeking a dependable and skilled General Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance team. If you have hands-on experience with general repairs, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, heating systems, or building maintenance , we want to hear from you. What You'll Do As a General Maintenance Technician, you will help maintain EHA residential properties and ensure our buildings, units, and grounds remain safe, clean, and in good working condition.
Key responsibilities include:
Complete assigned maintenance and repair work orders. Perform general plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, heating, and mechanical repairs . Repair and maintain occupied and vacant residential units. Troubleshoot maintenance problems and determine appropriate repairs. Prepare vacant units for new residents. Perform preventive and annual maintenance work. Assist with grounds maintenance, snow removal, mowing, cleaning, and other property needs. Respond to emergency maintenance situations. Participate in a rotating 24-hour on-call schedule . Maintain tools, equipment, inventory, and accurate work-order documentation. Perform other maintenance duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For Required:
High school diploma or GED. Previous experience in general maintenance, building maintenance, construction, or a related trade. Working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, heating, and general repairs . Mechanical and troubleshooting ability. Ability to use common hand and power tools safely. Valid driver's license and ability to drive on a daily basis. Reliable attendance and ability to work independently. Ability to communicate professionally with residents, coworkers, and supervisors. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to bend, kneel, squat, walk, climb, and perform physically demanding maintenance work. Ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions. Ability to participate in rotating on-call coverage.
Preferred:
3+ years of residential, apartment, property, facilities, or building maintenance experience. Experience troubleshooting plumbing, electrical, HVAC/heating, and mechanical issues.
