Req #1821 Fairbanks Morse Defense, 110 Norfolk Street, Walpole, Massachusetts, United States of America Apply Share Job Description Posted Monday, October 5, 2026 at 1:00 AM We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Lead (WTL) to support and guide our maintenance team at Bird-Johnson. In this hands-on role, you will help ensure maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and meet production needs. You will work alongside the team to troubleshoot equipment, assist with improvements, and promote a safe and reliable work environment.
Key Accountabilities:
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with OSHA and company safety standards, supporting the Zero Harm initiative. Lead, coordinate, and prioritize daily maintenance tasks, preventive maintenance, and major rebuilds on CNC machines and related equipment. Provide technical coaching and training to maintenance technicians on CNC troubleshooting, repair, and best practices. Champion safety and maintenance standards including calibration, coolant handling, spill response, tooling, rigging, and lifting. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve machine reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance part quality. Drive Lean, TPM, 5S, and other continuous improvement programs within the maintenance department. Perform root cause analysis on recurring failures and implement effective corrective actions. Oversee CNC controls troubleshooting and repair, including Siemens and FANUC systems; coordinate with OEM and third-party support when necessary. Manage maintenance documentation, safety inspections, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and company policies. Participate in daily stand-up and Tier meetings to communicate maintenance status, challenges, and priorities. Effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic production environment while promoting a strong sense of ownership and urgency.
Basic Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a production environment, specifically with CNC machines and complex troubleshooting. At least 18 months experience at a senior (level 3) maintenance technician role or equivalent. Siemens Advanced Controls training (completed before or after advancement). Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook). Performance Development Rating (PDR) of 3 or higher. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and on-call rotation as needed.
OSHA 10/30, NFPA
70E, Forklift, and Rigging certifications, or willingness to obtain. Must be a
US Citizen Preferred Requirements:
Proven leadership experience coaching and mentoring maintenance teams. Strong troubleshooting skills with CNC controls and associated hardware (FANUC, Siemens). Experience implementing Lean, TPM, and 5S methodologies within maintenance operations. Demonstrated ability to lead maintenance efforts during shutdowns, retrofits, and equipment upgrades. Excellent communication skills, able to interface effectively with operators, engineers, management, and vendors. Ability to write and execute MDI programs and perform advanced diagnostics on CNC machinery.
