Under general supervision, leads daily custodial maintenance of park facilities, supervises staff, schedules work, and ensures clean, safe environments. Manages cleaning operations, minor repairs, and event support while maintaining equipment and supplies. Requires strong custodial and leadership skills. The successful candidate must obtain a Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 12 months of hire. The position offers training and growth opportunities. Primarily a day-shift schedule, with occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. The Southern Parks Division supports both local and regional recreation across some of the most densely populated areas of Montgomery County. //www.montgomeryparks.org/ Examples of Important Duties Custodial & General Maintenance Leadership Lead daily custodial operations to maintain clean, safe facilities Schedule work, supervise staff, and ensure sanitation standards Oversee cleaning, minor repairs, and general park support Equipment & Vehicle Operation Operate and maintain custodial equipment and tools Transport supplies using park vehicles; some of which will require a CDL Perform seasonal tasks such as snow and leaf removal Administrative Tasks Manage staffing, schedules, and work orders Track activities, supplies, and communications Coordinate services and ensure required training completion Important Working Characteristics Strong leadership and facility maintenance knowledge Effective communication and team management skills Safety-focused, organized, and tech-proficient Working Conditions Primarily works outside. May be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays. Occasionally exposed to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife and potentially harmful insects (e.g., bees, hornets, wasps) and plants (e.g., poison ivy). Some pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and regularly up to 50 pounds Additional Information CDL required within 12 months Salary based on experience Public sector experience preferred Relevant skills, certifications, and bilingual ability are a plus On-call for emergencies Very flexible benefits package Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED). Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in ground maintenance, golf course maintenance, building maintenance or park maintenance. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment. Pass Commission medical examination. Depending upon an assignment, positions in this class may require within 12 months of hire (a) Commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements; (b) obtainment of certifications including: Maryland Department of Agriculture's Pesticide Applicator certification in the categories appropriate to the work assignment; Maryland Department of Agriculture's Professional Fertilizer Applicator certification; and National Playground Safety Institute certification.
