Specialized Residential Services (SRS Michigan) is looking for a dependable, versatile, and skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to help keep our residential homes safe, functional, and looking their best. This is not a job where every day looks the same. One day, you may repair and paint drywall; the next, you might assemble furniture, replace door hardware, troubleshoot a running toilet, or help prepare a new home for residents. If you enjoy working with your hands, solving problems, and seeing the results of your work, this may be the perfect role for you!
Position Details Pay:
$18.00-$22.00 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated skills
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, generally 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Hours:
Approximately 40-45 hours per week
Employment:
Full-time, nonexempt
After-hours:
Occasional emergency calls during nights or weekends
Benefits:
Eligible for the SRS benefits package after 90 days, subject to plan terms
Travel:
Local travel between SRS properties is required Company vehicle: Provided during work hours What You'll Do You'll support multiple SRS residential homes and properties by handling a wide variety of maintenance, repair, setup, and improvement projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
Repairing holes, cracks, dents, and damaged drywall Taping, applying joint compound, sanding, priming, and painting Completing interior and exterior painting and touch-ups Replacing light covers, bulbs, switch plates, vents, and similar items Repairing or replacing basic door, lock, hinge, and cabinet hardware Installing blinds, curtain rods, shelving, towel bars, pictures, and fixtures Assembling and repairing furniture, beds, tables, chairs, and storage units Completing minor carpentry, flooring, trim, and molding repairs Addressing basic plumbing concerns, such as clogged drains, running toilets, and loose fixtures Replacing furnace filters, smoke-detector batteries, and other routine maintenance items Assisting with preventive maintenance and property inspections Moving furniture, appliances, equipment, and supplies Helping set up new homes, bedrooms, offices, and common areas Picking up and delivering supplies or equipment between locations Assisting with yard cleanup, weeds, exterior debris, and seasonal maintenance when needed Helping with snow and ice removal when third-party services are delayed Keeping tools, supplies, workspaces, storage areas, and company vehicles clean and organized Documenting completed work and taking before-and-after photos when requested What Makes This Position Different? Our maintenance team works in homes—not empty warehouses or construction sites. You'll regularly work around residents, employees, guardians, visitors, and contractors. Take pride in doing a job correctly Notice the small details others miss Can move from one type of project to another without losing momentum Know when you can handle a repair—and when it is time to call a licensed professional Work well independently without needing constant supervision Communicate clearly about delays, materials, safety concerns, and project status Leave every work area cleaner and safer than you found it Enjoy being the person others call when something needs to be fixed Required Qualifications Demonstrated experience repairing and patching drywall Ability to prepare surfaces and complete professional-quality painting Working knowledge of common hand and power tools General understanding of home maintenance and repair Ability to troubleshoot routine property concerns Ability to safely use ladders, drills, saws, sanders, and painting equipment Strong organization and time-management skills Ability to use a smartphone or computer for assignments, photos, and documentation Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Reliable transportation Ability to travel between SRS locations Ability to pass applicable employment, driving, and background-screening requirements Availability for occasional after-hours emergency calls Preferred Experience We would especially like to meet candidates with at least two years of experience in one or more of the following areas: General or apartment maintenance Construction or remodeling Painting and drywall repair Carpentry Property management Handyman services Group homes, healthcare facilities, or other occupied residential settings Multi-property maintenance Coordinating repairs with outside contractors Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on position.
Candidates must be able to:
Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, and climb Work safely from ladders and step stools Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds Move heavier furniture or equipment with assistance Push, pull, load, and unload maintenance supplies Work both indoors and outdoors in changing temperatures and weather Work in residential areas, basements, storage rooms, and utility spaces Safely use paint, caulk, adhesives, cleaning products, and similar materials Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities. Emergency Calls Most work will be completed during regular business hours. Occasionally, you may be contacted about an urgent situation that cannot safely wait, such as: An active water leak or flooding Loss of heat during unsafe weather A broken door, lock, or window that prevents a home from being secured A sewage backup or significant plumbing problem Storm damage An immediate property or safety hazard You will only be expected to perform work that is safe and within your training and experience.
