This is a field-based position with a company-provided take-home service van. Technicians typically dispatch directly from home to customer locations throughout Southeast Michigan. We are looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, enjoys troubleshooting, works well independently, and takes pride in doing quality work. Previous automatic door experience is preferred, but not required. We are willing to train someone with strong mechanical aptitude, a good work ethic, and the ability to troubleshoot and learn.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Troubleshoot, service, repair, maintain, and install automatic pedestrian door systems Work on automatic sliding, swinging, folding, and revolving doors Diagnose mechanical, electrical, sensor, control, and door-hardware issues Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections Repair and adjust commercial doors, operators, sensors, controls, and related hardware Use electrical test equipment and hand and power tools to diagnose and complete repairs Communicate professionally with customers and explain work performed Accurately document service work and materials used Manage your service van, tools, and commonly used parts Travel to customer locations throughout Southeast Michigan
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
We are interested in both experienced technicians and mechanically capable candidates who are interested in learning the automatic door trade. Experience in any of the following can be a good fit: Automatic or commercial doors Commercial door hardware Electrical or low-voltage systems Access control Garage doors HVAC or other field-service trades Storefront, glass, and glazing Industrial maintenance or equipment service Mechanical equipment repair Candidates should have: Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability Basic electrical knowledge or willingness to learn Ability to use a multimeter and electrical diagnostic equipment Ability to work independently in the field Good communication and customer-service skills Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, and power tools AAADM certification is a plus but is not required.
PAY & TRAINING
Pay range: $26.00-$37.77 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and applicable union classification. Candidates who do not have sufficient qualifying trade experience may be required to enter a formal Glazier Apprenticeship program. The apprenticeship provides structured training and wage progression while learning the trade. Experienced candidates may qualify at or near the Journeyman classification based on applicable experience and union requirements.
SCHEDULE
This is a full-time position, typically 40-50 hours per week. Overtime may be available or required depending on workload. Technicians also participate in a rotating on-call schedule: On-call duty is one week at a time Technicians rotate with the rest of the service team With the current rotation, there are typically 7-8 weeks between on-call weeks
