This position is designed for an individual who is interested in developing a career in equipment repair and field service. The Apprentice will receive hands-on training and mentorship while learning to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain light industrial cleaning equipment, including commercial floor scrubbers, sweepers, and related battery-powered equipment. The position will provide exposure to mechanical, electrical, battery, and hydraulic systems while developing the skills necessary to perform preventative maintenance and equipment repairs safely and effectively. This is a regional field-based position serving the South East Michigan region. A company-provided service vehicle may be used as the Apprentice progresses in training and demonstrates the ability to safely perform field service responsibilities. Technical Responsibilities Mechanical & Electrical Diagnostics Assist experienced technician with troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and battery-powered systems Learn to diagnose failures in motors, drive systems, hydraulic components, control boards, wiring systems, and charging systems Utilize multimeters and diagnostic tools to identify electrical faults Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and parts breakdowns Conduct root-cause failure analysis to prevent repeat issues Repair & Preventative Maintenance Assist with field repairs on floor scrubbers, sweepers, and light industrial equipment Learn to disassemble and rebuild mechanical assemblies including drive systems, squeegee systems, and brush motors Perform preventative maintenance tasks under supervision Replace bearings, belts, gears, seals, solenoids, switches, and other components Learn basic servicing and troubleshooting AGM, gel, and lithium battery systems Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to OEM specifications Assist with calibrate and test equipment to ensure safe and proper operation Documentation & Compliance Complete detailed work orders accurately with guidance experienced technician. Maintain accurate parts usage records and submit parts requests as needed Ensure repairs meet manufacturer specifications and company quality standards Follow all company safety procedures and applicable OSHA guidelines Operational Support Responsibilities As part of our training program , apprentice may also assist with: Maintain service vehicle inventory and tool organization Keep work are clean and organized Coordinate with sales, purchasing and operations regarding parts and equipment needs Assist with receiving inventory and shipping (LTL/UPS) when required Support warehouse operations including equipment prep and light assembly Qualifications Mechanical aptitude and an interest in learning equipment repair Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, automotive, small engine, construction, agricultural, or similar equipment is helpful but not required Willingness to learn electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures Basic understanding of mechanical tools and safe tool use Ability and willingness to learn how to use a multimeter and other diagnostic equipment Ability to learn how to read electrical schematics and technical manuals Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn Comfortable working in customer facilities, including retail and industrial environments Ability to safely lift, move, and work around equipment Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Preferred Background Experience as a field service technician, industrial mechanic, or equipment repair technician Small Engine Repair Experience working on commercial cleaning equipment, forklifts, golf carts, or similar electric-drive systems is highly desirable Comfortable working in customer facilities including retail and industrial environments Advancement Opportunity The Apprentice position is intended to provide a pathway toward becoming an independent Field Service Mechanic/Technician .
