Melt Deck Operator- FOUNDRY

POSITION SUMMARY

Melt deck operators are responsible for safe and efficient operation of Induction furnaces and ladles to melt and pour processed metals. Work Requirements - ESSENTIAL

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties include, but are not limited to the following: Monitoring equipment to ensure that it is in good working condition and that production goals are met. Monitoring the quality of raw materials entering the furnace to ensure they meet standards for chemical composition and physical properties such as density and particle size distribution. Monitor furnace operations to make sure that temperatures are within safe limits and adjust controls as needed. Maintaining records of all heat cycles performed, including temperature and time settings. Participate in activities, projects, and programs to support safety, quality, and productivity goals. Performing regular maintenance on furnaces or other equipment used in the production process to ensure that they continue to operate efficiently. Monitoring the amount of raw material entering the furnace to ensure that it does not exceed the maximum capacity level set by the manufacturer. Observing the furnace during operation to ensure that it is operating properly and safely. Monitoring and documenting the amount of finished product exiting the furnace. Operation of material handling equipment including mobile equipment and cranes. Must be able to work overtime as needed. Flexibility of schedule to work alternate shifts as needed. Physically report to work on time for scheduled shifts (working remote is not available). Other duties as assigned. Physical and / or Sensory Requirements Receive on-the-job training, which may last for a few weeks to a month. This training may include learning safety procedures, how to operate the furnace and how to clean the furnace. Must be able to use arms, hands, legs, and feet in repetitive motions. Must be able to lift 60 pounds repetitively. Must be able to climb ladders and stairs and to stand and walk on concrete floors and uneven surfaces for the duration of the work shift. Must have good vision and depth perception. The ability to respond quickly to sounds. The ability to have depth perception and to see / respond to production needs or situations. The ability to work in elevated temperatures. The ability to communicate verbally with coworkers and supervisors. The ability to wear personal protective gear during the shift while working. Work Environment Frequent exposure to loud noises and vibration. Regular exposure to temperature variations. Training is provided including pay for skill incentives for increased earnings. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Must have great attention to detail, be results-oriented, and work effectively to resolve issues. Preference will be considered by those with experience.
