Maintenance Mechanic Job Description The Maintenance Mechanic performs general, preventive, and predictive maintenance on processing and manufacturing equipment, utility systems, and facility structures. This role focuses on minimizing equipment downtime, interpreting advanced engineering blueprints, and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. Responsibilities Implement preventive maintenance strategies to minimize equipment breakdowns and extend the life of machinery and facility systems. Apply predictive maintenance techniques, including vibration analysis and thermography, to anticipate equipment failures and schedule repairs proactively. Perform general maintenance services and related repairs on machinery, equipment, buildings, and structures under general supervision. Troubleshoot and maintain refrigeration systems, air compressors, plant power, and other plant utility systems to ensure continuous and efficient operation. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues and carry out repairs in a timely and effective manner. Interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints, including understanding tolerances, dimensions, and material specifications, to guide installation, repair, and modification work. Use hand and power tools, welding equipment, pallet jacks, and forklifts to perform maintenance tasks safely and accurately. Conduct inspections of processing and manufacturing equipment to identify potential problems and recommend corrective actions. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections as required by facility procedures. Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working in wet, cold, hot, noisy, and potentially slippery environments. Collaborate with other maintenance and operations personnel to prioritize work orders and minimize production disruptions. Essential Skills Proven experience performing general and preventive maintenance on processing and manufacturing equipment. Strong ability to implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, including the use of vibration analysis and thermography. Advanced blueprint and schematic reading skills, with the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, tolerances, dimensions, and material specifications. Hands-on mechanical skills, including repair and maintenance of a wide range of industrial machinery and equipment. Solid electrical troubleshooting skills for facility and equipment systems. Experience working with pneumatic systems and components. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and maintain refrigeration systems, air compressors, plant power, and other plant utility systems. Competence in using hand and power tools, welding equipment, pallet jacks, and forklifts in a maintenance setting. Ability to work under general supervision while managing multiple maintenance tasks and priorities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to following safety procedures in challenging work conditions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with processing and manufacturing environments and their associated equipment. Familiarity with predictive maintenance methods and condition monitoring technologies. Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic schematics. Comfort working with building and structural maintenance tasks in addition to equipment maintenance. Capability to operate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks and forklifts, in accordance with safety guidelines. Welding skills for repair and fabrication tasks.
