Polk County Government, county-seat Columbus, North Carolina is presently accepting applications for a Full-time Regular Maintenance Technician to work in it's Maintenance department. Polk County Government offers a $1,000.00 sign-on bonus for all full-time and part-time regular new hires. The starting amount for this position is $17.65 per hour. General Statement of Duties Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings, grounds, parks, facilities, county equipment along with other duties as assigned. Position performs carpentry, construction, painting, masonry, plumbing and minor electrical tasks. Duties assigned to employees in this position may vary according to qualifications of the employee, and specific needs of the Department and allocation of workload. Some independent judgment and initiative are required in completing job tasks. Reports to the Public Buildings & Grounds Director. Minimum Requirements and Education High School Diploma or equivalent GED and one (1) year experience in building maintenance; Or, equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Current Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Successful pre-employment drug screen. Successful criminal background check.
Physical Demands:
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, driving, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines. Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including tractors, trucks, riding lawn mowers, blowers, edgers, chain saws, various landscaping tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
