Job Overview We are seeking a proactive and skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our team at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Fremont. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the optimal operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical systems across the hotel, including guestrooms, public spaces, and the pool. Your expertise will help maintain a safe, efficient, and well-functioning property by troubleshooting issues promptly and performing preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment. This role also carries added responsibility during the hotel's ongoing renovation, serving as the on-site point of contact for contractors and vendors. Responsibilities Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on guestroom and public-space systems, including HVAC units, plumbing fixtures, electrical systems, appliances, and pool equipment, to ensure optimal performance Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and appliance systems using schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic tools Replace filters, light bulbs, batteries, and other consumable items according to maintenance schedules Install, upgrade, and replace appliances, fixtures, and mechanical equipment in guestrooms and public areas Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and system manuals to accurately diagnose issues and execute repairs Conduct regular safety checks on all mechanical systems to prevent malfunctions or hazards Identify and address minor repairs before they impact guest satisfaction, document completed work, and report significant repair needs or safety concerns to leadership Serve as the on-site point of contact for contractors and vendors during the property's renovation, coordinating access, monitoring work against schedule, and flagging issues to ownership Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance tasks, inspections, and renovation progress Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition Assist with room readiness and turnover projects as needed Respond to maintenance requests when assigned during periods of high demand Qualifications Proven experience as a maintenance technician or engineer, with a strong background in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or general mechanical systems repair 2-4 years of hotel, facility, or commercial building maintenance experience preferred; renovation or construction site experience is a plus Ability to read schematics, technical manuals, and electrical diagrams for troubleshooting purposes Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in appliance and fixture repair Comfortable coordinating with outside contractors and vendors, tracking work against a schedule, and communicating status to ownership and management Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical guests and staff Basic computer skills for completing work orders, maintenance logs, and providing status updates Licenses & Certifications Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification preferred — strong pool maintenance experience will be considered in place of certification EPA certification (refrigerant handling) preferred but not required Additional Requirements Must be able to work inside and maneuver throughout the entire property Must be able to work independently Must be able to complete all appropriate paperwork Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues May be required to work overtime due to business needs (e.g., snow, weather, system failure) Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English Must be able to maintain a neat, well-groomed, professional appearance and uphold company appearance standards Adheres to departmental and company policies and maintains compliance with all regulatory, governmental, and safety requirements Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations, including the ability to lift up to 100 lbs., push/pull up to 200 lbs., and climb, reach, bend, twist, stoop, and stack Join us as a Maintenance Technician if you're passionate about keeping facilities running smoothly through your technical expertise!
