Job Description

POSITION TITLE

General Maintenance Person

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Be a self-starter and able to work without supervision.

2. Must have general knowledge of plumbing, boilers, carpentry, electricity, grounds keeping, masonry, and general maintenance.

3. Must be able to do general repairs, know his/her limitations and not hesitate to contact a specialist when in doubt.

4. Possess the ability to get along with others and be flexible in his/her schedule, responsibilities and work.

Buildings and Grounds Coordinator

JOB GOAL

To provide students and teachers with a safe, clean, attractive place to learn.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible to the Principal of the building to which he/she is assigned.

2. Maintains boilers in good operating condition.

3. Keep boiler rooms clean.

4. Do light electrical work which does not require an electrician's license.

5. Repair or replace parts such as motors, controls, motorized valves, etc.

6. Make repairs or adjustments to HVAC equipment.

7. Repair or replace plumbing; i.e. sinks, toilets, faucets, heaters, piping, etc.

8. Check filters, replace or clean as needed.

9. Weekly check air tanks and drain condensate.

10. Repair doors and fixtures.

11. Replace broken windows.

12. Perform other duties as required and/or directed, or as noticed at time of other activity when it seems a sensible use of time.

13. Be available on call when needed.

14. Be involved in the ongoing program of plant cleanliness.

15. Be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds.

16. Be able to regularly climb up and down ladders.

17. Be able to work from elevated positions (mechanical lifts) and on top of roofs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

In accordance with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) contract

WORK YEAR

260 days / year round position

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the AFSCME contract. The principal and/or administrative designee will be the evaluator.
