Job Description

Overview Woodland Country Day School is seeking a reliable, skilled, and self-motivated full-time Maintenance Technician to support our 12-acre campus, which includes three academic buildings, a gymnasium, a maintenance building, and athletic fields. This position plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate is a self-driven, hands-on problem solver who can manage a wide range of maintenance and custodial needs in-house, while coordinating and supervising outside contractors when appropriate. Key Responsibilities Facilities & General Maintenance Perform general building maintenance and repairs, including: Plumbing (minor repairs, fixtures, leaks, toilets, sinks, etc.) Light carpentry (doors, trim, cabinetry, classroom fixtures, railings, porches, shutters, etc.) Painting, sanding, and finishing as needed Basic electrical and mechanical tasks (light fixtures, outlets, equipment troubleshooting) Power washing Cleaning gutters as needed Replace lightbulbs as needed Empty and maintain dehumidifiers Replace and clean HVAC, vents, and AC unit filters according to schedule and notify the Head of School when replacements are needed Assist with minor repairs and report larger issues to the Head of School or Buildings & Grounds Committee Remove window AC units in the fall and reinstall in the spring Oversee contractors and repair technicians Custodial & Cleaning Support (After-hours cleaning is contracted; this position provides oversight and supplemental cleaning as needed.) In conjunction with the Head of School, oversee and coordinate contracted after-hours cleaning services Inspect buildings after cleaning shifts and report/address deficiencies Perform cleaning and sanitation tasks as needed in special circumstances (e.g., spills, illness response, events, weather-related needs)
Bathrooms:
Check bathrooms throughout the day to ensure they are clean and stocked (soap, toilet paper, paper towels) Report plumbing or maintenance issues immediately
Lunchroom:
Set up and clean up after lunch Clean lunchroom surfaces, wipe tables/chairs, and remove trash after meals Ensure the area is neat and sanitary after each use
Classrooms & Building Areas:
Empty classroom trash daily and replace liners Assist with light cleaning tasks (sweeping, wiping surfaces, spill cleanup) Grounds & Outdoor Duties Perform light grounds maintenance including: Trash removal Snow and ice control Lawn care is contracted, but some grounds-related duties are expected (such as watering/landscaping maintenance) Operate and maintain basic grounds tools and equipment such as UTV, mower, and trimmers Event & Operations Support Assist with classroom, event, and furniture setup/breakdown Assist campus visitors (e.g., vendors, inspectors, water testing personnel) Respond to emergency maintenance requests and after-hours calls as needed Coordinate and oversee outside vendors/contractors when specialized work is required Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory of supplies Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required 3+ years of experience in facilities, custodial, groundskeeping, or maintenance work preferred Strong skills in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and/or general repairs Basic knowledge of custodial practices and lawn/grounds equipment Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks Strong attention to detail and safety awareness Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, bend, stand, and work indoors/outdoors Valid New Jersey Driver's License required Reliable, professional, and collaborative Mechanical equipment servicing experience preferred, but not required Schedule & Work Environment 30 - 35 hours per week, year-round position, flexible summer hours Occasional overtime, flexible hours, and emergency call-ins may be required Work includes both indoor and outdoor duties in varying weather conditions
Pay:
From $17.00 per hour
