Job Description

Class AA Mechanic - Gouverneur, NY Compensation and other terms and conditions of employment for this position are subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Embark on an exciting career with BiOrigin Specialty Products at our Gouverneur, NY paper mill! We are seeking an experienced Class AA Mechanic to join our maintenance team. This is an advanced skilled trades position responsible for maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, installing, fabricating, and modifying industrial machinery and facility equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills and experience in industrial maintenance, millwright work, pipefitting, welding, rigging, fabrication, and mechanical troubleshooting. While a journeyperson card is preferred, candidates with extensive hands-on skilled-trade experience are encouraged to apply, including those who have not had the opportunity to complete a formal apprenticeship program.
Responsibilities:
Perform mechanical maintenance, repairs, installations, and equipment modifications. Troubleshoot and repair industrial machinery and equipment. Work with paper machine rolls, bearings, gearboxes, drives, pumps, and other mill equipment. Perform welding using MIG, TIG, arc welding, brazing, and other appropriate processes. Perform pipefitting, including cutting, installing, repairing, and connecting piping and components. Perform metal cutting and fabrication using saws, cutting torches, pipe cutters, and other equipment. Perform rigging and safely move machinery, equipment, rolls, and other heavy components using hoists, dollies, rollers, trucks, and related equipment. Lubricate equipment and adjust or replace packing on pumps and other machinery. Assist with dismantling, repairing, and reassembling machinery and equipment. Perform maintenance and repairs involving pneumatic and water systems. Perform facility maintenance, including repairs involving metal, concrete, wood, rail tracks, and grounds. Maintain maintenance tools, equipment, vehicles, tow motors, and shop areas. Perform confined-space monitoring and assist with work performed in confined spaces. Read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, and diagrams. Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined-space, rigging, and hot-work procedures. Perform other maintenance duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 4 years or 8,000 hours of paper mill maintenance experience, or equivalent experience in a related skilled trade. Completion of a recognized journeyman/apprenticeship program in mechanical maintenance, millwright, pipefitting, welding, or a related skilled trade is preferred. Successfully pass the required mechanical comprehension test. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Valid tow-motor/forklift license or ability to obtain one. Strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude. Work independently with limited supervision while also contributing effectively as part of a skilled maintenance team. Ability to work effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments. Willingness to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as needed, including call-ins.
Physical & Work Environment:
This is a physically demanding industrial maintenance position. Employees must be able to climb, bend, stoop, lift (unassisted up to 80lbs, assisted 150lbs), carry, push, pull, work in awkward positions, operate tools and equipment, and work around industrial machinery. The position may require working at heights, in confined spaces, around hot-work operations, and in other industrial environments. Employees must be able to follow all applicable safety requirements and procedures.
