Position Summary:
The Entry-Level Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician supports equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and basic repairs on production and lab machinery. This role is designed for someone developing hands-on skills in electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and automated equipment systems while working under the guidance of experienced maintenance personnel.
Essential Job Functions:
Assist with troubleshooting and repairing production and lab equipment in a timely manner Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules and procedures Support maintenance staff with basic electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and equipment-related repairs Learn to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, electrical diagrams, and pneumatic schematics Document maintenance work, parts used, troubleshooting steps, and equipment concerns accurately Communicate clearly with supervisors, peers, production staff, and vendors as needed Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area while following all safety procedures Assist with identifying recurring equipment issues and recommending process or maintenance improvements Other duties as assigned
Skills & Abilities:
Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems Willingness to learn equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair procedures Ability to follow written instructions, SOPs, maintenance checklists, and safety procedures Very strong attention to detail and ability to document work accurately Good oral and written communication skills Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced, goal-oriented production atmosphere Basic computer skills for documentation, maintenance records, and equipment references Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required Technical school, trade school, certificate program, or associate degree in electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred Prior maintenance, manufacturing, electrical, mechanical, or repair experience preferred but not required Experience with hand tools, power tools, meters, or basic shop equipment preferred Experience with automated or computer-controlled equipment a plus Optical lab knowledge a plus but not required
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods of time Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, twist, and work in awkward positions while servicing machinery and equipment. Climb stairs and ladders and work at elevated locations when required. Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, tools, parts, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Use hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate, and operate hand tools, power tools, controls, and maintenance equipment. Perform work requiring sufficient visual acuity to inspect equipment, read gauges and schematics, and identify equipment conditions. Work in industrial environments that may involve noise, temperature variations, confined or restricted spaces, and exposure to machinery and other operational hazards. Wear required personal protective equipment appropriate to the work being performed.
