Maintenance Technician PHMGTN Akron, OH Job Details Full-time $17 - $20 an hour 3 hours ago Qualifications Organizational skills Refrigeration Hand tools Mechanical troubleshooting Building interior maintenance Full Job Description Hotel Maintenance TechnicianPosition Summary We are seeking a reliable, hands-on, and proactive Hotel Maintenance Technician to support the daily operation and upkeep of the property. This position is responsible for maintaining guest rooms, public areas, mechanical systems, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, HVAC systems, elevators, and other hotel facilities in safe and proper working condition. The ideal candidate should have strong troubleshooting skills, a sense of urgency, and the ability to identify and resolve maintenance issues before they negatively impact the guest experience or hotel operations. Key Responsibilities Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and hotel departments. Inspect guest rooms and public areas regularly to identify maintenance needs. Complete repairs efficiently and follow up until each issue is fully resolved. Prioritize Out of Order (OOO) rooms and work to return rooms to inventory as quickly as possible. Perform preventive maintenance throughout the hotel. HVAC / Air Conditioning Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on HVAC and air-conditioning systems. Inspect and replace filters as needed. Identify issues involving thermostats, PTAC units, ventilation, heating, and cooling. Report or coordinate repairs requiring licensed HVAC contractors. Plumbing Repair or replace faucets, toilets, sinks, drains, shower components, pipes, and related fixtures. Diagnose leaks, slow drains, water pressure issues, and other plumbing problems. Take immediate action to prevent water damage. Electrical Replace light fixtures, bulbs, switches, outlets, batteries, and other electrical components when appropriate. Inspect emergency lighting and EXIT signs. Identify electrical issues requiring licensed professional service. Elevators and Mechanical Equipment Conduct visual inspections of elevator-related equipment and report operational concerns. Assist with routine checks of elevator pumps, hydraulic systems, oil levels, and related equipment when applicable. Coordinate with approved elevator vendors for specialized inspections and repairs. Ensure elevator-related maintenance issues are reported and followed through to completion. Kitchen Equipment Inspect and troubleshoot commercial kitchen equipment.
Assist with maintenance of:
Refrigerators and freezers Ovens and ranges Fryers Dishwashers Food warmers Ice machines Microwaves Exhaust and ventilation systems Other commercial kitchen appliances Coordinate specialized repairs when necessary. Laundry Equipment Inspect and troubleshoot commercial washers and dryers. Maintain laundry-room lighting, ventilation, drains, and related equipment. Report mechanical failures and coordinate repairs when required. General Hotel Maintenance Perform drywall repair, painting, caulking, carpentry, and minor construction work. Repair doors, locks, deadbolts, furniture, cabinets, luggage carts, and fixtures. Maintain windows, walls, flooring, ceilings, and exterior areas. Perform minor repairs to guest-room appliances and hotel equipment. Assist with swimming pool equipment and related maintenance when applicable. Maintain pumps, motors, fans, mechanical equipment, and utility areas. Inspect fitness-center equipment and report or repair issues when appropriate. Support maintenance of hotel shuttle or property equipment when requested. Preventive Maintenance Follow a structured preventive maintenance schedule. Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms and mechanical areas. Identify potential failures before they become major repairs. Keep accurate records of completed preventive maintenance. Track recurring maintenance problems and recommend permanent solutions. Maintain an organized inventory of tools, replacement parts, filters, batteries, bulbs, and maintenance supplies. Safety and Compliance Follow hotel safety procedures and OSHA-related workplace practices. Maintain mechanical rooms and maintenance areas clean and organized. Properly use ladders, tools, chemicals, and safety equipment. Immediately report safety hazards, water leaks, electrical concerns, fire-safety issues, or equipment failures. Know when an issue requires a licensed or certified outside contractor. Guest Service Maintain a professional and courteous attitude when entering occupied guest rooms. Communicate clearly with Front Desk and Housekeeping regarding maintenance status. Minimize disruption to guests during repairs. Understand that maintenance directly impacts guest satisfaction, cleanliness, room availability, and hotel performance scores. Qualifications Previous experience in hotel maintenance, apartment maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, or a similar field preferred.
Working knowledge of:
HVAC / air conditioning Plumbing Basic electrical systems Kitchen equipment Laundry equipment Mechanical equipment Drywall and painting Basic carpentry Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently. Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests. Dependable, punctual, and able to work with limited supervision. Availability to work weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency maintenance situations when required. Ability to lift, carry, push, and move equipment and materials associated with maintenance work.
Preferred Experience Hotel maintenance experience:
1+ year preferred.
General maintenance experience:
1+ year preferred. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, or commercial equipment experience is highly desirable. Experience working in Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Hyatt, or another major hotel brand is a plus.
