Job Title:
Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Engineer Job Description This role focuses on ensuring maximum uptime and reliable performance of all production equipment and facility systems in a food manufacturing environment. You will troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and building systems, support preventive maintenance programs, and help maintain a safe, efficient, and well-functioning plant. Responsibilities Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair production equipment and machinery to ensure optimum uptime in a cost‑efficient and timely manner. Maintain, diagnose, and repair building systems and their components, including lighting, production wastewater systems, compressed air, hot and cold water systems, electrical systems, and similar facility systems. Apply HVAC skills where applicable to support the performance of facility systems (HVAC experience preferred but not required). Monitor, manage, and maintain maintenance stock inventory, regularly reviewing parts for adequacy, usage, and obsolescence. Use the preventive maintenance program and CMMS to schedule, document, and complete preventive and predictive maintenance tasks. Demonstrate strong capabilities in maintaining and troubleshooting all plant equipment and facility activities to support optimum plant operation. Perform upkeep and basic repair of maintenance tools, maintenance equipment, and facility infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient operation. Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues. Perform welding and fabricating tasks as needed to repair or modify equipment and structures. Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems including 480V circuits, AC/DC motors, 3‑phase wiring, and motor controls. Support boiler and utilities maintenance, including pumps, motors, and associated control systems. Perform PLC troubleshooting at the I/O and field device level as needed to support industrial automation and controls. Provide an excellent level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders, responding to maintenance requests in a professional and timely manner. Communicate clearly and professionally with co‑workers, supervisors, and other departments regarding work status, issues, and recommendations. Apply logical, systematic diagnostic methods to identify root causes of equipment and system failures and implement appropriate corrective actions. Follow all safety, quality, and food manufacturing standards while performing maintenance tasks throughout the facility. Report to work on time consistently and work overtime as needed to support production demands and urgent maintenance needs. Perform all other related duties as assigned to support continuous plant operation and improvement. Essential Skills Proven experience in industrial maintenance or as a maintenance technician supporting production equipment and facility systems. Strong electrical maintenance skills, including troubleshooting of 480V systems, AC/DC motors, 3‑phase wiring, and motor controls. Hands‑on mechanical maintenance experience, including repair and adjustment of conveyors, drives, and production machinery. Proficiency with hydraulics and pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repair of cylinders, valves, actuators, and air systems. Demonstrated ability to perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance using a structured maintenance program. Experience with facilities maintenance, including lighting, compressed air, hot and cold water, and other building systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings to support troubleshooting and repair. Experience with PLC troubleshooting at a basic level, including I/O checks and field device verification. Ability to perform welding and basic fabrication for equipment repair and modification. Familiarity with CMMS (computerized maintenance management systems) for work orders, PMs, and parts tracking. Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including use of meters and diagnostic tools to identify faults. Ability to diagnose and repair motors, drives, and 3‑phase power systems safely and effectively. Creative, innovative problem‑solving skills with the ability to evaluate issues through logical, systematic diagnosis. Capability to determine root cause of equipment and system problems and select appropriate, long‑term solutions. Broad experience covering instrumentation, electrical maintenance, and mechanical maintenance. Effective verbal communication skills to interact professionally with co‑workers, supervisors, and customers. Commitment to reliability, punctuality, and willingness to work overtime when required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a food manufacturing or similar regulated production environment. HVAC knowledge or experience supporting facility climate systems (preferred but not required). Welding and fabricating skills for repair and custom modifications to equipment and structures. Pneumatic repair experience, including troubleshooting air leaks, regulators, and valves. Experience working with boilers and associated utility systems. Experience in industrial maintenance, including exposure to automation, PLCs, and control systems. Comfort working with 480V electrical systems and 3‑phase wiring in an industrial setting. Ability to complete and maintain all required technical and safety training. Strong attention to detail and documentation when using CMMS and preventive maintenance systems. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle a wide variety of equipment and system issues. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a food manufacturing facility that requires adherence to strict hygiene and safety standards. Team members wear hairnets and, where applicable, beard nets as part of the standard dress code. The environment can vary in temperature, with some areas being warm and others cold depending on the products being stored or processed. The facility often carries the aroma of breading and spices due to the nature of the products produced. You will work around industrial production equipment, utilities, and building systems, using a range of maintenance tools and diagnostic equipment. Basic hand tools are supplied by you, while the company provides the remaining tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment necessary to perform your job safely and effectively. Overtime may be required based on production and maintenance needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elyria, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
