Maintenance Technician Position Category Maintenance/Custodial Position Type Maintenance Technician Posting Start Date 6/24/2026 Posting End Date 8/31/2026 Position Start Date 7/1/2026 School District Paoli Public School City, State Paoli , OK United States Description The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the overall upkeep, repair, and general safety of Paoli Public Schools' facilities and grounds. This role is essential in providing a clean, safe, and functional environment that supports the academic success and extracurricular activities of our students. The successful candidate will demonstrate self-direction, technical proficiency, and a commitment to maintaining the high standards of the district. Key Responsibilities 1. Facility Maintenance & Repair Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on district buildings. Conduct general repairs including plumbing, basic electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting. Coordinate with contractors for specialized repairs or large-scale projects as directed by the Superintendent. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency work orders. 2. Groundskeeping & Exterior Upkeep Maintain school grounds, including mowing, trimming, debris removal, and landscaping maintenance. Operate and perform routine maintenance on district equipment, including tractors, zero-turn mowers, and power tools. Ensure all athletic fields and outdoor common areas are safe, clean, and tournament-ready. Manage winter weather protocols, including snow and ice removal from walkways and entry points. 3. Safety & Compliance Maintain all facilities in accordance with state and local safety codes and district policies. Regularly inspect playground equipment, security locks, and exterior lighting to ensure operational safety. Maintain organized and safe storage areas for chemicals, tools, and maintenance supplies. 4. Operational Support Assist with the setup and breakdown of large-scale community events and district-wide family engagement activities. Manage inventory of maintenance supplies and submit procurement requests for necessary parts or equipment. Maintain a professional and helpful presence while working around staff and students.
Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years in building maintenance, groundskeeping, or a related trade.
Technical Skills:
Ability to operate grounds equipment (tractors/mowers) and perform minor building repairs independently.
Certifications:
Valid Oklahoma Driver's License required.
Character:
Strong attention to detail, ability to follow a preventative maintenance schedule, and a commitment to transparency and district standards. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and work in varying weather conditions for extended periods. Core Educational & Legal Requirements Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Licensure:
Valid Oklahoma driver's license with a clean driving record (essential for operating district vehicles and potentially towing equipment).
Clearance:
Must successfully pass a criminal background check and any mandatory district-level child safety training. 2. Technical & Trade Skills You want a "jack-of-all-trades" who can handle the variety of issues that arise in a school setting:
General Maintenance:
Demonstrated experience with basic carpentry, painting, and drywall repair.
Mechanical & Groundskeeping:
Proficiency in operating and performing routine maintenance on outdoor power equipment (zero-turn mowers, tractors, weed eaters).
Systems Knowledge:
Working knowledge of plumbing (toilets, sinks, water fountains) and basic electrical (ballast replacement, switch/outlet troubleshooting).
Preventative Maintenance:
Experience in following a maintenance schedule to extend the life of district equipment and building infrastructure. 3. Soft Skills & Behavioral Expectations Because they are part of the school community, their presence matters:

The ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision—identifying issues before they become major repairs.

Clear verbal communication skills to interact professionally with the Superintendent, teachers, and school board members.

A deep commitment to OSHA standards and school-specific safety protocols, particularly regarding the handling of chemicals, electrical safety, and "Lockout/Tagout" procedures.
Adaptability:
A flexible mindset to handle urgent "work orders" or last-minute setup requirements for school events. 4.
Physical & Operational Demands Physical Stamina:
Ability to lift up to 50-75 lbs, work on ladders, and spend significant time walking, kneeling, or working in outdoor weather conditions.
