• The Fence Contractor/Fence Installer is responsible for the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of fencing systems. The majority of work will involve agricultural fencing, barbed-wire fencing, livestock fencing, and perimeter fencing in remote and rugged terrain. This position requires someone who is physically capable of performing demanding outdoor work for extended periods, often in steep, uneven, rocky, muddy, wooded, or otherwise difficult-to-access terrain. The employee will operate hand tools, power tools, fencing equipment, and potentially vehicles or machinery while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and proper fence construction. The Fence Contractor will be expected to work independently as well as effectively as part of a crew. Responsibilities include measuring and laying out fence lines, setting posts, stretching and tensioning wire, installing gates, clearing fence corridors, repairing existing fences, and completing projects according to specifications.

Primary Responsibilities:

Construct, install, repair, and maintain various types of fencing. Install and construct barbed-wire, agricultural, livestock, woven-wire, field, high-tensile, and perimeter fencing. Install residential and commercial fencing, including wood, chain-link, vinyl, ornamental, and other fence systems as required. Establish and maintain accurate fence lines according to property boundaries, plans, and project specifications. Clear brush, vegetation, rocks, fallen timber, and other obstacles from fence lines. Measure, mark, and lay out fence runs and post locations. Dig, drill, drive, and set fence posts using appropriate hand tools and equipment. Install braces, corners, H-braces, gates, stays, clips, staples, insulators, and other fencing components. Stretch, tension, splice, and properly secure barbed wire and other fencing materials. Construct strong corner, end, and gate assemblies capable of withstanding livestock pressure and environmental conditions. Install and adjust livestock and vehicle gates. Repair damaged, leaning, broken, or deteriorated fencing. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, post drivers, augers, saws, drills, winches, and other fencing equipment. Load, unload, transport, and organize fencing materials and equipment. Work from trucks, trailers, and other work vehicles to transport materials to remote job sites. Navigate and work safely across steep hillsides, rocky ground, wooded areas, ravines, creek crossings, and other rugged terrain. Maintain tools and equipment and report damaged or unsafe equipment. Follow project specifications, construction standards, and company safety procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, property owners, and customers when required. Complete projects efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship. Perform other duties related to fence construction, maintenance, and property improvement as needed.

Physical & Working Conditions:

This is a physically demanding outdoor construction position. Employees should expect to work in a variety of weather and terrain conditions.

The position may require:

Walking and working on steep, uneven, rocky, muddy, or unstable ground. Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, reaching, and lifting. Repeatedly handling fencing wire, posts, tools, and construction materials. Lifting and carrying materials weighing 50+ pounds when necessary. Working outdoors for extended periods in hot, cold, wet, windy, or dusty conditions. Working in remote locations with limited vehicle access. Working around livestock, wildlife, insects, vegetation, and other outdoor hazards. Working around machinery, vehicles, power tools, and construction equipment. Working at heights when installing certain fencing systems. Performing repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Previous experience in fence installation, construction, ranch work, agriculture, landscaping, or a related field is preferred. Experience with agricultural or barbed-wire fencing is strongly preferred. Ability to safely and efficiently work in rugged and remote terrain. Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic measurements and calculations. Ability to understand fence layouts, measurements, and basic construction instructions. Ability to properly handle, stretch, tension, and secure fencing wire. Ability to construct structurally sound corners, braces, ends, and gates. Familiarity with common hand and power tools. Ability to safely operate or learn to operate fencing equipment and machinery. Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship. Reliable attendance and dependable transportation to work/job sites. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to work effectively as part of a crew. Strong awareness of personal and job-site safety. Willingness to learn different fencing systems and construction techniques. Ability to follow instructions and complete work according to specifications. Preferred Qualifications but

NOT Required:

1-3+ years of professional fencing or construction experience. Experience installing barbed-wire and agricultural fencing. Experience with livestock/ranch fencing. Experience with high-tensile wire fencing. Experience building H-braces, corner assemblies, and gate openings. Experience operating a post driver, auger, skid steer, tractor, UTV, or similar equipment. Welding or basic metal fabrication experience. Carpentry experience. Heavy equipment experience. Experience working in mountainous, rocky, wooded, or otherwise difficult terrain. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability to tow and work with trailers is a plus.
