Job Description

Hood River Garbage, a Waste Connections company, is looking for an enthusiastic and safety-focused Preventative Maintenance Technician to work on our truck fleet in Hood River, Oregon.
Shift:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM•4:30 PM during training, possible shift change to 10:00 AM•6:00 PM following training period.
Starting wage:
$28.00/hour•$30.00/hour
DOE Safety Sensitive:
Yes PM Technicians interested in secure, steady employment are encouraged to apply. Commercial Driver's license A or B CDL is preferred but not required. Mechanic tools and tool box required. Shop also has tools onsite to use.
Responsibilities include:
Perform repairs and inspections, safety checks, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on diesel vehicles. Performs repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services. Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs. Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment. Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times. Reviews, completes or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. Performs maintenance related work as required. Helping other team members with repairs as needed. Having professional and courteous interactions with our drivers when needed. Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks.
Qualified candidates must have:
Experience in commercial or similar repair field is preferred but not required. Willingness to learn new skills, and a positive attitude. Driver's license. Basic tool set and toolbox. Basic computer skills and ability to learn test diagnostic laptop and software. Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days of start of position. Hydraulic experience is a plus. ​ Working conditions & physical effort: Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds. Work environment may be indoors in a shop, or outdoors to repair trucks on the road. Usually well-lighted and ventilated. Sometimes necessary to work in awkward or tight positions and to handle greasy or dirty tools. These factors require following basic safety precautions.
