October 2026 Job Summary The Utility Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance of utilities and equipment for campus buildings and infrastructure. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of equipment and appliances. Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrical (LME) license preferred. Key Responsibilities Identify and troubleshoot simple to complex building maintenance issues. Be able to perform general maintenance in some or all of the following areas: general plumbing, mechanical systems, refrigeration equipment, and appliances. Follow sound maintenance practices and perform repairs in accordance with manufacturers' specifications. Inspect and maintain commercial and residential appliances. Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues; repair, replace, remove, and install equipment as necessary. Respond to work orders and perform preventive maintenance activities on facilities, building systems, and equipment. Maintain accurate work order records and track inventory of tools, frequently used parts, and replacement items; prepare purchase requisitions for approval. Responsible for daily maintenance and upkeep of the campus clock system, mechanical spaces, and response to fire alarm troubles. Assist with maintenance and repairs on plumbing fixtures, water heaters, pumps, piping, sewer systems, and steam equipment. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures, including use of personal protective equipment, handling and disposal of hazardous materials, lockout/tagout, and confined space rules and regulations. Operate motor vehicles, high lifts, forklifts, carts, generators, and pumps as needed to perform job duties. Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: responding to emergency requests during scheduled and after-work hours; assisting in preparing for University functions; assisting in the department safety and emergency operations plan; assisting co-workers with tasks and special projects; and attending off-site training and/or conferences that may require travel. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to follow, interpret, and act on written and verbal job instructions. Proficient in using and maintaining the full range of tools and equipment used in carrying out duties, in a manner that meets all safety regulations. Ability to prioritize and organize work, solve practical problems, and deal with a wide variety of variables. Ability to plan and prioritize work to ensure equipment is maintained to specified standards and individual user needs are met. Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read and understand construction drawings and details, specifications, installation, operation and maintenance procedure manuals, safety rules, and other technical documents as required. Basic knowledge of the use of personal computers, including the ability to write routine reports and maintain email correspondence. Must be able to communicate with peers and other staff and students on routine and/or technical matters. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities. Must be able to work after hours in emergency situations. Requires call-back work as needed, as well as occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work. May be required to work during University closures due to inclement weather or other University needs. Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to become and remain certified to operate Linfield University vehicles and equipment. State of Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrical (LME) license preferred. Five years of residential, commercial, and facilities maintenance experience preferred. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Exposure to chemicals, hazardous materials, electric currents, moving mechanical parts, and extreme weather conditions. Must be able to be fitted for a respirator or other appropriate personal safety equipment to work in confined or limited-access areas. Operate motor vehicles.
