Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES.
Performs general cleaning, maintaining supplies, equipment operations, making repairs, painting, landscaping, and lawn care of city owned property.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASSIFICATION.
The Parks, Grounds & Facilities Maintenance position involves considerable contact with the general public and interaction with office staff and public works employees. The primary job emphasis will be on general services maintenance and landscape with some work performed in custodial duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED.
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Public Works Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED.
May schedule, assign and/or review the work of community service workers, temporary or part time workers, summer help and service learning/school groups.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
General cleaning and stock restrooms at City parks. Perform custodial duties as needed for City parks and City Hall. Perform lawn care (mow, use weed eater), clean flower beds (planting, weeding, and apply bark mulch), leaf removal, water, fertilize, maintain and repair sprinklers, prune trees & shrubs, and haul debris. Operate dump truck, tractors with mow deck and occasionally operate front-end loader when necessary. Perform maintenance & repairs on equipment, mowers, and tractors (lube, check fluid levels, & sharpen blades). Clean city owned walkways and parking areas. Construct and repair park tables, playground equipment. Paint signs, sign posts, fire hydrants, buildings, railings, benches, park tables, curbs, and playground equipment. Complete monthly checks of emergency exit lighting. Maintain inventory supplies and schedule repairs or replacement of equipment & materials. Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides according to certified operator's instructions or as directed. Open and close park restrooms when on duty or during special occasions. Other duties include but not limited to requesting estimates for proposed or special projects and helping in city hall.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
Must have a high school level education and three months of work experience and/or training in general cleaning, painting, landscaping, lawn care, and have reasonable knowledge in equipment operations, maintenance & repairs. Must have the ability to speak, read and write in English.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS.
Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid Oregon drivers license with an acceptable driving record. Must be able to adjust work schedule to fit the demands of the position and have the flexibility to work on and prioritize a variety of tasks. Must have good interpersonal, communication & customer service skills, a positive can do attitude, be a team player and get along with other employees. Must be able to drive and back up pickup with trailer attached. Must have or be able to obtain Oregon Pesticide Licensing.
OTHER FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS.
Required to push, pull, carry, bend, lift, crawl, stand, handle or feel objects/controls/tools, talk, hear, read & interpret documents, compute mathematical situations accurately, and operate computer, calculator, phone, fax, and other equipment as needed.
Pay:
$21.34 - $28.09 per hour
