Job Description
We are seeking a dependable, hands-on, and skilled Chief Engineer to join our Hampton Inn team. The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel's building, guest rooms, equipment, and grounds to ensure a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for our guests and team members. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, and experienced in general building maintenance, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting. This position plays an important role in maintaining guest-room readiness, protecting hotel assets, and ensuring the property meets company and brand standards. Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance and repairs throughout the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and exterior areas. Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, locks, swimming pool equipment, and other hotel systems and equipment. Complete scheduled preventative maintenance for guest rooms, equipment, and hotel facilities in accordance with company and brand standards. Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and hotel team members. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and equipment issues and complete repairs in a timely manner. Conduct routine property and equipment inspections to identify maintenance needs and help prevent equipment failures. Ensure guest rooms with maintenance concerns are repaired promptly and returned to service. Coordinate with the General Manager, Housekeeping, and other departments to ensure guest rooms and hotel facilities are properly maintained. Coordinate with approved vendors and contractors when repairs or services require outside assistance. Maintain accurate maintenance records, preventative maintenance documentation, and work orders. Monitor maintenance supplies and notify management when parts, tools, or materials need to be ordered. Follow all company safety procedures and applicable building, fire, and life-safety requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop and work environment. Assist with special projects, renovations, property improvements, and other duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous hotel maintenance or facilities maintenance experience preferred. Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and general building maintenance. Ability to troubleshoot and perform general repairs on hotel equipment and building systems. Experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic equipment. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize maintenance needs, and complete assignments with limited supervision. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when responding to guest maintenance concerns. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing ladders. Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor conditions. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, and respond to urgent maintenance needs as required.
