Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician performs preventive and predictive maintenance on production machinery and facility equipment to ensure reliable and efficient operation. This role diagnoses equipment failures, troubleshoots complex mechanical and electrical issues, and completes timely repairs across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems. The technician installs, modifies, and maintains production equipment and support systems, maintains facility utilities, and ensures all work complies with applicable safety, regulatory, and food manufacturing standards. Responsibilities Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on production machinery and facility equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems on production and facility equipment. Diagnose equipment failures and implement timely corrective actions to restore safe and efficient operation. Install, modify, and maintain production equipment and associated support systems as needed for manufacturing operations. Perform equipment changeovers and line setup adjustments to support production schedules and product changes. Inspect, maintain, and repair motors, drives, sensors, controls, conveyors, and PLC-controlled equipment. Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals to perform accurate repairs and installations. Assist with troubleshooting automated systems and production controls, including PLCs and related components. Maintain facility systems including HVAC, compressed air, refrigeration, steam, water, and wastewater systems. Conduct building repairs and general upkeep to maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment. Monitor utility systems, identify deficiencies, and report issues to ensure reliable operation of facility services. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP requirements, and food safety standards in all maintenance activities. Ensure maintenance work complies with FDA, USDA, OSHA, and internal company policies and procedures as applicable. Use food-grade lubricants, tools, and maintenance procedures where required to protect product integrity and safety. Participate in internal and external audits, provide maintenance-related documentation, and support corrective actions. Complete maintenance work orders accurately and promptly within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Document repairs, inspections, preventive maintenance activities, and parts usage in the CMMS and other required records. Communicate equipment issues, repair status, and maintenance priorities clearly with production and leadership teams. Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety, and recommend solutions. Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives to address recurring equipment problems. Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement programs through maintenance-related improvements and suggestions. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical and electrical systems in an industrial setting. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals. Hands-on experience with industrial maintenance, including production and packaging equipment. Proficiency in troubleshooting pneumatics and hydraulics on production machinery. Experience with PLC troubleshooting and automation systems in a manufacturing environment. Ability to inspect, maintain, and repair motors, drives, sensors, controls, conveyors, and PLC-controlled equipment. Experience using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively. Basic computer proficiency and experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). Knowledge of electrical maintenance practices, wiring methods, and industrial electrical systems. Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP requirements, and food safety standards. Familiarity with FDA, USDA, and OSHA compliance requirements relevant to maintenance activities. Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced production environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Technical degree, vocational training, or apprenticeship in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred. Food manufacturing maintenance experience preferred, including exposure to food processing equipment. Knowledge of food processing equipment such as conveyors, mixers, fillers, packaging equipment, ovens, and refrigeration systems. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Welding, fabrication, and machining experience for equipment repair and modification. Refrigeration certification or electrical licensing, where applicable. Experience supporting lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives. Ability to participate in and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective action programs. Why Work Here? Work Environment Work in a food production environment with regular exposure to noise, temperature changes, and moving machinery. The position is on 2nd shift, typically from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with a willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed to support production demands.
