Responsibilities The Sign Tech performs a variety of routine and skilled maintenance and repair tasks related to traffic control signals, electrical and electronic devices, computer equipment and systems, flagging traffic, and striping roads or parking lots. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responds to emergency traffic signal problems and restores operation to traffic signal control devices that are not working properly due to electrical or equipment failure caused by vehicular accidents, vandalism, adverse weather, construction, or various other reasons; Responds to urgent traffic signal malfunction calls whenever necessary (day or night) and is required to be on rotating, on‐call duty as necessary; Performs routine maintenance on traffic signals and related computer and electrical equipment and documents work performed; Maintains inventory of parts and equipment for traffic signal maintenance; Performs solid state testing and calibration on remote control equipment, electro‐mechanical signal controllers, program clocks, and computers; Locates and repairs underground and above ground signal wires; Assists in making and installing traffic signs; Assists in applying pavement marking materials; Assists during construction projects in implementing traffic detours; and Performs related work as required and other assigned duties. It Is Mandatory For Sign Tech To Support the principles and methods used and set forth by departmental practices and systems; Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and demonstrate mechanical capabilities; Possess knowledge of traffic rules and regulations; Possess and implement knowledge of job related safety hazards and precautionary methods; Propensity to work in a dynamic environment that requires adaptation to changing goals, priorities, and needs; Maintain organized working space, projects, and assignments; and successfully use computers and modern office equipment; Routinely maintain tactful and professional conversations with others; including, while being confronted with controversial situations.
