ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves intermediate work, routine water or wastewater facility machinery, piping, and equipment problems. Inspects and identifies issues on equipment, components and structures; documents and reports issues associated with process equipment at electric, water and wastewater facilities. Completes predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance. Assists in the installation, dismantle, repair, and preventative maintenance of pumps, motors, and other equipment utilized in the operation of large scale water, sewer and/or electric utility plant facilities and field stations. Operates or uses a variety of hand or power tools and makes parts and fixtures by cutting and shaping metals. Assists in painting tasks; performs maintenance on building structures and equipment maintenance, including HVAC system. May require the part‑time operation of some machinery and equipment using hoists, jacks, and ladders. May operate a forklift, powered vertical lifting equipment, confined space equipment, utility truck, crane, vacuum/jetter combination unit, water tanker, or other heavy equipment. Works shift schedule and on-call and call-out duty as needed (including nights, weekends, and holidays). Completes other job duties as assigned. Senior Mechanic

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(include the following) Under limited supervision, performs technical work in the maintenance, fabrication, repair, and overhaul of various structures and equipment associated with the treatment plants and/or wastewater lift station facilities. Troubleshoots and resolves routine water or wastewater facility machinery, piping, and equipment problems. Installs, dismantles, constructs and assembles, services, repairs, overhauls, and maintains pumps, blowers, electric motors, engines, compressors, turbines, and specialized equipment for plant-specific use. Participates in painting tasks; assists electricians, technicians, and building maintenance as required. Conducts preventive maintenance repairs and service on operating equipment and components; performs diagnostic testing, as well as keeps maintenance schedules. Utilizes hand tools, power tools and shop equipment, such as milling machines, to maintain, fabricate, or repair parts for equipment and structures; performs skilled plumbing and pipefitting in the modification of plant systems. May operate a forklift, powered vertical lifting equipment, confined space equipment, utility truck, crane, vacuum/jetter combination unit, water tanker, or other heavy equipment. Cuts, welds, and brazes metal through use of Oxygen-Acetylene torches. Enters confined spaces and rehabilitates lift stations and treatment plant structures. Reads blueprints and diagrams. Organizes and plans work, keeps work records updated, and generates reports. Works shift schedule and on-call and call-out duty as needed (including nights, weekends, and holidays). Sets up traffic control devices and directs traffic on assigned work areas. Completes other job duties as assigned. Lead Mechanic

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge important to perform the functions of the job include: Knowledge of the methods, practices, and tools used in mechanical maintenance and repair work. Knowledge of general occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical maintenance and repair work. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Skills important to perform the functions of the job include: Skill in the proper use and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform various mechanical repair tasks. Skill to satisfactorily perform at least one of the following trades including but not limited to, mechanics, pipe fitting, insulation installation, welding, machining, electrical maintenance, electronics or controls. Skill in operating power tools and heavy equipment, dump trucks, and other public utilities water/wastewater system vehicles. Abilities important to perform the functions of the job include: Ability to complete detailed inspections of machinery and mechanical equipment and to detect flaws and defects of machinery while in operation. Ability to use/operate various types of maintenance equipment with unencumbered competence. Ability to perform manual excavations and backfilling construction trenches and loading materials onto trucks. Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions in English. Ability to work in confined spaces and follow confined space entry procedures. Ability to work in environments that may include exposure to various solvents, chemicals, and materials. Ability to improve one's personal skills, knowledge, and abilities in order to meet or adapt to changing conditions. Ability to work around the clock, day, or night. Education & Experience Requirements Maintenance Mechanic High School Diploma or GED or U.S. Equivalency report required and two (2) years' experience in mechanical maintenance or repair work. Senior Mechanic High School Diploma or GED or U.S. Equivalency report required and four (4) years' experience in mechanical maintenance or related repair work. Lead Mechanic High School Diploma or GED or U.S. Equivalency report required and six (6) years' experience in mechanical maintenance or related repair work. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Maintenance Mechanic Requires a valid Texas Driver License or receipt of a valid Texas Driver's License within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy. A Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License with is required within (2) years from the date of appointment. Senior Mechanic Requires a Texas Commercial Driver's License Class B or receipt of a valid Texas Commercial Driver License Class B within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy. A Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Wastewater Collection I License or a Water Distribution Operator Class C License is preferred. Lead Mechanic Requires a Texas Commercial Driver's License Class B or receipt of a valid Texas Commercial Driver License Class B within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy. Must be able to obtain, within one (1) year of appointment, a Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Wastewater Collection I License or a Water Distribution Operator Class C License. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to do continuous physical work for minimum of eight hours under adverse weather conditions including, but not limited to, sunshine, rain, sleet, and 20 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit temperature extremes. Must be able to walk up and down stairs as many as 25 times in a given day and carry up to 75 lbs. of tools and equipment. Must be able to walk, stand, climb ladders, bend at waist, bend at the knees, lift, pull, and push with up to 50 lbs. of force. Must exercise sufficient manual dexterity and good eye vision to safely operate maintenance tools. Must be able to stretch reach, overhead reach, and place the body in awkward positions to perform work. Must be able to work in elevated places. Must have a good uninterrupted loud voice. Must be able to work in confined spaces and pass the annual fit test requirements for use of a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and/or respirator. Must wear the approved apparel and use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to safely perform the work.
