District Sign Technician I:
Performs entry-level transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineatorsin a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records of signs and materials and using specialized tools and equipmentrelated to sign installation. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and standard practicesand are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
District Sign Technician II:
Performs skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in adistrict. Work includes maintaining inventory and records, ordering of signs and materials, and using specialized tools andequipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervisionof details. The essential duties for the District Sign Technician I include:• Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergencysituations/conditions.• Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.• Issues signs to maintenance sections/transportation crews; uses tools and equipment and moves signs and relatedmaterials.• Measures and calculates amount of materials needed.• Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties.• Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs.• Operates radios.• Performs and maintains inventory of signs.• Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck.• Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control• Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance.• Performs other job responsibilities as assignedAdditional duties for the District Sign Technician II include:• Orders supplies and materials from district shop.• Orders signs from the regional sign shop.• Conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retroreflectivepavement markers (RPMs).• Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs.situations/conditions.• Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
