Overview Job description: We are looking for a warehouse mechanic or maintenance technician for our tire disposal or recycling facility. You will be responsible for ensuring all machinery and equipment function correctly and safely. The role involves a mix of hands-on mechanical work, preventative maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, and general facility upkeep. Position summary The warehouse mechanic/maintenance technician will perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on all tire processing machinery and facility equipment. They will diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, and conduct repairs to ensure maximum uptime and safety. The role requires strict adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations. Duties and responsibilities Equipment maintenance and repair: Perform regular preventative maintenance (PMs) on industrial machinery, such as tire shredders, balers, conveyors, forklifts, and pneumatic tools. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic malfunctions. Read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics to understand equipment systems and controls. Fabricate or repair parts using machine shop instrumentation and basic welding techniques. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Facilities and grounds maintenance:
Maintain the overall upkeep of the warehouse, including minor building repairs, electrical work, and plumbing. Operate warehouse equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and floor scrubbers. Assist with the unloading and stocking of equipment and supplies. Perform custodial tasks to ensure a clean, organized, and debris-free work area.
Safety and compliance:
Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols. Adhere to OSHA and environmental compliance regulations. Identify and report safety hazards or unsafe working conditions to management immediately. Wear and maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Qualifications and requirements
Education:
High school diploma or GED is generally required. Vocational training, certification, or an apprenticeship in industrial maintenance is a plus.
Experience:
A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in mechanical or electrical maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Technical skills:
Proven experience as a mechanic with strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Basic welding and fabrication skills. Proficiency in using hand and power tools, as well as testing and precision instruments. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Personal attributes:
Physical stamina and dexterity to lift heavy objects (up to 75 pounds), stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks in various conditions. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills to report issues and coordinate with other departments.
