This position performs technical duties related to repairing and maintaining department buildings and facilities and is responsible for custodial services and upkeep. Processes and ensures the timely completion of work orders and inspects department facilities for maintenance and repair needs. Performs general maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, doors, hinges, locks, bunk beds, steel tables and stools, mirrors, kitchen fixtures, shelves, furniture, valves, ceilings, and other facility fixtures. Installs and replaces custodial and facility equipment, including soap and towel dispensers, light bulbs, ballasts, and other fixtures. Performs floor maintenance, including waxing and buffing. Maintains clean, sanitary, and orderly offices, meeting rooms, recreational areas, kitchens, restrooms, entrances, exits, and other facility spaces. Mops, vacuums, dusts, washes, disinfects, and otherwise cleans floors, furniture, fixtures, mirrors, drinking fountains, sinks, counters, restrooms, and other assigned areas. Replenishes custodial supplies, including toilet tissue and soap, and empties and disposes of waste in designated areas. Maintains entrances and exits and keeps surrounding areas clear of leaves, litter, snow, and other debris. Orders and purchases supplies and materials as necessary to complete maintenance and custodial projects. Responds to after-hours emergencies and performs or reports necessary maintenance repairs. Reports facility damage, vandalism, and other maintenance concerns as appropriate. Performs any other duties as assigned. Knowledge of the materials, equipment, and methods used in the custodial maintenance of public buildings. Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of custodial equipment. Knowledge of safe work practices. Knowledge of relevant construction codes. Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in building repair and maintenance. Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution. Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of related experience. Must be at least twenty-one ( 21 ) years of age. The purpose of this position is to perform technical duties in the maintenance and repair of department buildings and custodial maintenance of department buildings.
