Maintenance Mechanic Job Summary:

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment and facility systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This position requires an intermediate to advanced level of mechanical maintenance skills and the ability to diagnose complex equipment issues. The Maintenance Mechanic works with limited supervision, supports preventative maintenance programs, and assists in improving equipment reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production equipment and plant systems. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical failures on machinery such as conveyors, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, mixers, motors, and packaging equipment. Diagnose equipment issues using observation, testing equipment, and maintenance documentation. Disassemble, repair, and reassemble mechanical components including bearings, seals, couplings, chains, belts, and shafts. Perform equipment alignment, lubrication, adjustments, and calibration as required. Support installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment and machinery. Work with production staff to identify equipment issues and reduce downtime. Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment history in the maintenance management system (CMMS). Assist in root cause analysis for equipment failures and recommend corrective actions. Follow and enforce plant safety policies, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, and machine guarding procedures. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.

Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives to improve production efficiency. Communicate equipment status and repair needs to maintenance supervisors and production teams.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required. Technical, trade school, or vocational training in industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, or related fields preferred. 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills. Experience with conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and production machinery. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, manuals, and equipment documentation. Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and maintenance tracking systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Basic electrical troubleshooting skills (motors, sensors, switches, VFDs). Welding, fabrication, and machining experience. Experience with CMMS systems for maintenance tracking and work orders. Knowledge of industrial safety procedures and regulatory compliance. Knowledge of encapsulation machines is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs or more with assistance. Ability to work in environments with noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.

Work Environment:

Industrial manufacturing or production plant environment. May require rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, and on-call support depending on production demands.
