  • OR•E/G5•Technician II Position Summary We are seeking a proactive and skilled Maintenance Technician to join our dynamic team!

In this vital role, you will be responsible for performing basic to intermediate semi-skilled work maintaining and repairing school buildings and grounds facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. will help maintain a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for students and staff. Position requires ability to work flexible hours or evening shifts as projects dictate. Work is performed under moderate supervision of the Director of Facility Operations. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Essential Functions Open the building each morning and secure it at the end of each day, as directed by the principal. Conducts general upkeep procedures and occasional light custodial duties. Ensure that the building is ready for student and staff arrival daily. (HVAC working correctly, and entrances have been properly cleaned by custodial contractors). Inspect the exterior of the building daily for signs of unauthorized entrance, vandalism, and trash. Assist with minor building repairs as necessary. Replace light bulbs and ceiling tiles as necessary. Performs grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing grass, edging walks, pruning and trimming trees and hedges; applies chemicals and fertilizer, mulches beds, etc; assists with snow removal and ice control. Maintains athletic fields. Repairs doors and hardware; replaces windows, stairway railings, drywall, decks and ramps; repairs and replaces ceiling tiles. Repairs roofs, benches, desks, chairs, fences, etc.; builds ramps; assembles furniture and playground equipment. Performs general locksmith functions; repairs and replaces lock cylinders and cores; cuts keys; installs panic bars and door closures. Estimates material needs and purchases materials; delivers supplies. Repairs and replaces electrical outlets, switches, light fixtures, ballasts, light bulbs, sockets, etc.; assists with major electrical repairs. Repairs and replaces faucets, sinks, commodes, soap dispensers, etc; unstops toilets, and water fountains. Repairs, replaces and installs paneling, tile, ceilings, walls and other items in buildings; replaces floor tiles and wall bases; assists with painting interior. Maintains and operates tractor, mower and various skilled trade tools. Enter maintenance requests into the DCPS work order system in conjunction with building administrators. Provide periodic updates on the state of custodial work and general maintenance to the building principal or their designee (frequency to be established by the building principal). Assist in setting up furniture for special events taking place in the building. Assist in receiving deliveries to the building. Assist custodial contractor's staff with snow removal and salt application on walkways around the building. Assist SRO with ensuring that entrances and exits remain secure during the school day. Assist custodial contractor with reactive cleaning of student accidents, restrooms, and cafeteria during the school day. Basic knowledge of the location of fuse boxes, breaker boxes, and electrical switches to assist in the event of an emergency. Familiarity with the fire alarm system. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation protocols. Basic maintenance and repair skills. Basic computer skills. Strong attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Physical capability to perform tasks. Familiarity with emergency protocols and systems. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Organizational skills to manage tasks efficiently. Adaptability to changing priorities and situations. Problem-solving skills to address maintenance issues effectively. Qualifications, Education and Experience Completion of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Proven experience in janitorial or custodial roles, demonstrating proficiency in cleaning and sanitation protocols or moderate experience in building and grounds maintenance and repair; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force Work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle, or feel, frequently requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms, lifting, and repetitive motions, and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling. Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities. Work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, work in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). Special Requirements May require a valid driver's license to operate division-owned/leased motor vehicles. The incumbent's driving record will be subject to periodic review, and must be acceptable in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County School Board's policy manual.
