Compensation:
Hourly (Non-Exempt) We are seeking a highly skilled and dependable Maintenance Mechanic to support operations at our glass abrasive manufacturing facility in Norfolk, Virginia. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the operational readiness, safety, and reliability of heavy industrial processing equipment, including conveyors, crushers, screens, and automated plant machinery.
Perform precision welding, cutting, metal fabrication, and equipment modifications to optimize operational performance.
Emergency Response:
Provide rapid emergency troubleshooting and breakdown repair response to safeguard production targets.
Inspections & Documentation:
Conduct systematic inspections and maintain thorough maintenance logs, equipment work orders, and failure reports.
EHS & Compliance:
Adhere strictly to corporate environmental, health, and safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety standards.
Housekeeping & Organization:
Maintain 5S cleanliness, order, and safety standards across work areas, tool stations, and shop floor spaces.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
Prior experience as an industrial technician, plant mechanic, or heavy equipment specialist in a high-volume manufacturing setting preferred.
Technical Knowledge:
Hands-on proficiency with conveyor systems, crushers, vibrating screens, and bulk material handling systems is strongly preferred.
Fabrication Skills:
Demonstrated experience in structural welding (MIG/TIG/Stick) and torch cutting.
System Expertise:
Proven capability to read schematics and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Safety Mindset:
Solid foundation in industrial safety management systems (Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Personal Protective Equipment).
Collaboration:
Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a cross-functional plant team.
Flexibility:
Strong attendance record and availability to work overtime or shift rotations as operational demands require.
Physical Demands:
Capability to perform heavy manual labor in a dynamic industrial environment characterized by heat, noise, and airborne particulates.
