Maintenance Mechanic Job Description This Maintenance Mechanic role supports a high-volume food processing facility by maintaining, repairing, and improving production equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. You will start on the day shift for training and then transition to the night shift, performing both preventive and corrective maintenance while adhering to OSHA standards, the National Electric Code, and strict food safety regulations. Responsibilities Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on machinery, mechanical systems, and facility equipment to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency. Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues, including electrical circuits and components, to quickly identify root causes and implement effective solutions. Read, interpret, and update wiring diagrams to ensure accurate documentation of electrical systems and modifications. Work safely with high-voltage, 3-phase electricity and related equipment while following all applicable safety standards and procedures. Apply knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory, motor control centers, transformers, and PLCs to maintain and improve equipment performance. Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and the National Electric Code in all maintenance and repair activities. Prioritize and respond to multiple critical issues that impact production output, equipment reliability, and personnel safety. Communicate clearly and proactively with leadership regarding work assignments, equipment status, and any issues that may affect production schedules. Maintain accurate logs and records for preventive and predictive maintenance programs to support continuous improvement and regulatory compliance. Support facility upkeep, including tasks such as cleaning, painting, and structural repairs, to maintain a safe and orderly work environment. Ensure food safety by following all company safety policies, procedures, and sanitation requirements while working on equipment and in production areas. Install new production equipment, including packaging machines and related systems, ensuring proper setup, alignment, and integration with existing processes. Use hand tools and appropriate maintenance equipment to perform mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building maintenance tasks as needed. Collaborate with other maintenance technicians and production personnel to coordinate work, share information, and support smooth plant operations. Essential Skills 35 years of industrial maintenance experience in a food processing environment. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical issues up to 480 volts, including 3-phase systems. Hands-on experience installing new production equipment such as packaging machines. Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in mechanical repairs and adjustments. Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including AC/DC circuits and components. Experience working with PLCs and PLC troubleshooting in an industrial setting. Knowledge of motor control centers, transformers, and industrial motors. Ability to read, interpret, and update wiring diagrams accurately. Experience with preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance programs. Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics used in industrial machinery. Working knowledge of HVAC systems in a manufacturing or processing facility. Experience with welding in support of equipment repair and fabrication. Basic plumbing skills for facility and equipment maintenance. Ability to use hand tools and maintenance equipment safely and effectively. Understanding of OSHA regulations and National Electric Code standards as they apply to maintenance work. Experience with Allen-Bradley equipment and controls or similar platforms. Experience in boiler operations or maintenance within an industrial facility. Proven troubleshooting skills in both mechanical and electrical systems. Ability to work independently on the night shift after training, managing multiple tasks and priorities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous maintenance experience in a food processing environment is strongly valued. Experience as a maintenance technician or maintenance engineer in an industrial setting. Experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, or facility upkeep. Comfort working with high-voltage, 3-phase electrical systems in accordance with safety standards. Experience supporting facility repairs, including structural work, painting, and general building maintenance. Strong communication skills to provide clear updates on assignments and equipment status. Attention to detail in maintaining maintenance logs, records, and documentation. Ability to balance new machine installs, preventive maintenance, and repairs to existing equipment on a daily basis. Solid understanding of food safety practices and willingness to follow all company safety policies and procedures. Work Environment This role is based in a food processing facility that operates multiple shifts and runs high-volume production. You will initially train on the day shift and then transition to the night shift, working in a fast-paced environment where equipment reliability and food safety are critical. Typical processing schedules include 4:00 a.m.4:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m.4:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, with occasional Friday work. Packaging operations typically run 5:30 a.m.5:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m.1:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday work. Expect a workload that regularly includes 1015 hours of overtime per week. You will work around industrial machinery, electrical systems up to 480 volts, hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC equipment, boilers, and packaging lines, following strict food safety and safety protocols at all times. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plymouth, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
