Job Description
Maintenance Technician
- $30•32 per hour•Darien $30•32 per hour | Open / flexible shift | Full-time Darien, Wisconsin If you are the tech who would rather tear a gearbox apart than wait on a contractor, this plant in the Darien area wants you on the floor.
This is not a parts-swapper seat and it is not a first job out of school. It is a hands-on Maintenance Technician / Mechanic role on real converting equipment: extruders, coaters, laminators, slitters, and winders that have to stay up or the shift falls behind. The shop needs someone who can find the problem, weld what needs welding, put the machine back together, and own the result. Electrical help is useful. Mechanical skill is the job. What You Will Do Tear down, diagnose, and rebuild gearboxes and related mechanical assemblies instead of sending every job out. Repair hydraulic shafts and troubleshoot hydraulics and pneumatics on production equipment. Weld and fabricate gates, shelves, fixtures, and guards. Structural welds that hold, not tack work that gets redone. Keep extrusion, coating, laminating, slitting, and winding equipment running with fast, clean shop-floor troubleshooting. Handle emergency repairs when a line is down and build preventative work so the same failure does not come back tomorrow. Support 480V motor controls and basic electrical troubleshooting when the repair calls for it. Controls are a plus, not the center of the role. Work side by side with operators and leads, explain what you found, and leave the machine better than you found it. Stay calm when production is waiting. This plant feels a missed checkpoint. Uptime is the scoreboard. What You Bring Experienced industrial maintenance background. Multi-year stints. Not a rookie and not a job-hopper.
Strong mechanical first:
gearboxes, shafts, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, and shop-floor troubleshooting. Weld and fabricate at a level that holds up on the floor. Comfortable talking through a weld or a repair plan on a phone screen. Electrical skill is helpful. PLC or Allen-Bradley familiarity is a bonus. It is not the lead requirement. Plastics, packaging, film converting, extrusion, coating, or laminating experience moves you to the front of the line. Workforce maturity and decent people skills. You will work around a mixed English and Spanish production crew. Reliable transportation for a rural Walworth County plant. Easy drive from Elkhorn, Burlington, Delavan, Lake Geneva, Beloit, and nearby towns. Why You Will Love It Real machines, real money for real skill. $30 to $32 per hour for a technician who can actually fix things. Your work stays in-house and gets noticed. Small crew, short chain of command, no corporate layers between you and the repair. Open / flexible shift. First or second shift can work. Second-shift interest is a plus. We will match the person, not force a grind nobody asked for.
