Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician performs mechanical maintenance and repairs on conveyors, cheese packaging equipment, boilers, and general plant and facilities equipment. This role focuses on troubleshooting mechanical and basic electrical issues, supporting installations of new equipment, and ensuring reliable operation of production machinery in a food packaging environment. Responsibilities Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on conveyors, cheese packaging equipment, boilers, and other plant machinery to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. Work on Viking equipment and other newer stainless steel builds, keeping equipment in good working order through routine inspections and preventative maintenance. Troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues on plant equipment, including working with electrical systems up to 220 volts. Carry out installations of new equipment and perform repairs or modifications on existing machinery as needed. Handle general facilities maintenance tasks to support safe and efficient plant operations. Support complementary duties such as machine operation, minor cleanup, and assisting with production activities when required. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all safety procedures while performing maintenance and repairs. Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage to maintain accurate equipment records. Collaborate with production and other team members to identify equipment issues and prioritize maintenance needs. Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with facility standards. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience in maintenance or a closely related field; candidates who are mechanically inclined and fresh out of school are also considered. Strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to diagnose and repair issues on food packaging and plant equipment. Experience working with conveyors and related mechanical systems. Ability to perform basic electrical work up to 220 volts, with a willingness to learn more electrical skills on the job. Hands-on experience with maintenance technician duties, including troubleshooting, repairs, and routine maintenance. Understanding of hydraulics and mechanical systems used in industrial or manufacturing environments. Ability to work safely and effectively in a GMP-regulated food production facility. Good problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues efficiently. Capability to perform physical tasks associated with maintenance work, such as bending, lifting, and working in colder environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with cheese or food packaging equipment is a plus. Familiarity with Viking equipment or newer stainless steel machinery is beneficial. Comfort working in a smaller, fast-paced production facility. Willingness to learn additional electrical skills; PLC experience is not required. Strong teamwork mindset and the ability to assist with machine operation and production when needed. Attention to detail and commitment to following GMP and safety standards. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a smaller food production facility operating on a first shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The standard workweek is approximately 50 hours and is expected to decrease as staffing levels increase. The facility is kept at colder temperatures due to cheese processing, and employees work in a GMP-regulated environment where hair nets and beard nets must be worn as appropriate. The setting involves working around conveyors, packaging equipment, boilers, and stainless steel machinery, with an emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and adherence to production and quality standards. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Oregon, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $55000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
