This is a hands-on leadership role for a technician who can read construction drawings, organize daily field activities, coordinate labor and materials, and take ownership of a project from rough-in through testing and closeout. The Lead Technician will serve as the primary on-site contact for customers, general contractors, field personnel, and GSW Telecom's Project Manager. Our projects support government, education, and enterprise customers throughout Tucson, the surrounding region, and multiple states. Duties Lead, supervise, and assign daily work to technicians and field crews. Review drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to develop an executable field plan. Install, terminate, label, test, and certify CAT6/CAT6A, coaxial, telephone, and fiber-optic cabling. Perform fiber installation, termination, testing, troubleshooting, and splicing. Install and bend small EMT and rigid conduit for overhead and equipment-room pathways. Build and organize MDFs, IDFs, telecommunications rooms, equipment racks, patch panels, and cable-management systems. Perform rack-and-stack work and maintain clean, standards-compliant installations. Support surveillance camera, audio/visual, Wi-Fi,and wireless point-to-point or multipoint installations. Coordinate materials, equipment, tools, staging, and inventory for assigned projects. Monitor labor hours, material usage, quality, productivity, schedule, and project costs. Identify and communicate field conditions that may affect scope, schedule, safety, or budget. Coordinate with customers, general contractors, subcontractors, and project management. Train and mentor junior technicians on safety, installation standards, testing, and company procedures. Complete daily reports, test results, as-built documentation, and closeout records. Experience Minimum of 6 years of structured cabling and fiber-optic installation experience . Previous experience as a Lead Technician, Foreman, Field Supervisor, or similar field leadership role. Demonstrated ability to supervise crews and complete projects safely, on schedule, and within budget. Strong knowledge of CAT6/CAT6A, fiber-optic systems, conduit, telecommunications-room buildouts, testing, labeling, and certification. Proficiency bending and installing EMT and rigid conduit. Ability to read blueprints, construction drawings, rack elevations, pathway plans, and project specifications. Experience working in new-construction and retrofit environments. Working knowledge of cable-certification equipment, fiber-test equipment, power tools, and hand tools. Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and customer-service skills. Ability to make sound field decisions with minimal supervision. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, passport and or long form birth certificate. High school diploma or equivalent. BICSI, RCDD, fiber, manufacturer, or other relevant technical certifications are preferred. Government, education, or enterprise project experience is preferred. Work Requirements Ability to lift and carry equipment or materials weighing more than 50 pounds. Ability to work from ladders, lifts, ceilings, equipment rooms, and active construction environments. Ability to safely operate vehicles, tools, and specialized testing equipment. Availability to work day, evening, overnight, or weekend shifts depending on project requirements. Work availability range 7:00 a.m - 7:00 p.m. Ability to travel outside the Tucson area for projects. Professional appearance and conduct while representing GSW Telecom. Ability to pass job-related background screening, drug testing, motor-vehicle review, and government, education, aerospace, technology site-access requirements, as applicable.
