Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Structured Cabling Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex structured cabling systems that support telecommunications, data networks, and security systems. Your expertise will ensure seamless connectivity and optimal performance across various client sites, including data centers, commercial buildings, and telecommunications facilities. The ideal candidate is energetic, proactive, and possesses a strong foundation in network wiring, fiber optics, and telecommunications systems. Duties Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems including Cat5, Cat6, fiber optic cables, and low-voltage electrical wiring in diverse environments. Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams to accurately execute cabling layouts and system configurations. Conduct fiber splicing and fiber optic systems installation to ensure high-quality data transmission capabilities. Troubleshoot equipment issues using diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and telecommunications testing equipment to identify faults quickly. Perform network installation tasks involving Ethernet cabling, Cisco routers, Juniper devices, VoIP systems, and telecommunication infrastructure. Ensure proper cable management by organizing cables neatly within racks, j-hooks, or conduits while adhering to safety standards. Install and terminate patch panels. Test communication systems using RF (radio frequency) testing tools and verify system performance for optimal operation. Provide field service support by diagnosing problems on-site with customer service focus while maintaining clear communication with clients. Requirements Proven experience as a service technician or in a similar role specializing in structured cabling or telecommunications installation. Strong knowledge of computer networking concepts including LAN/WAN configurations, Ethernet standards (Cat5/Cat6), and network wiring practices. Familiarity with schematics, technical diagrams, and telecommunication system layouts. Ability to operate diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters, multimeters, and telecommunications testing equipment effectively. Proficiency with hand tools (wire strippers, crimpers, punch down tools), power tools, and equipment repair procedures. Understanding of AC/DC electrical systems and low-voltage electrical wiring safety protocols. Knowledge of VoIP telephony systems like Avaya or similar platforms is a plus. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to supervisors. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; willingness to travel for field service assignments. Must be able to pass a background check.
