Job Description
Cabling Technician
- Helper. Work as part of a two-man team to install and repair low-voltage cable, including CAT6, coax and fiber optics. Basic Requirements Critical Thinking
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Time Management
- Managing one's own time to maximize efficiency. Monitoring
- Monitoring performance and safety risks caused by yourself and/or surrounding personnel/equipment to make improvements as necessary. This ability to recognize an unsafe environment is particularly essential. While our duties are typically very low-risk, we ALWAYS empower our employees to leave a potentially unsafe situation immediately and contact their manager. Mechanical Aptitude
- Understanding the basic principles of how and when to use tools effectively. Understanding basic building structures/practices. Social Skills
- The ability to work well within a team and effectively convey information to coworkers and customers. Troubleshooting
- The ability to identify, isolate, and correct issues. Education and Training
- Company will provide basic training needed. No job-specific education or training required to start. Background
- Must have a good driving record and be able to pass background check through Virginia DCJS. Any misrepresentation or omission of information on the application will be grounds for disqualification or termination following employment. Work Context Work Setting
- We run communications cabling in a variety of local businesses, including hospitals, offices and new construction sites. Conditions can vary widely by location/job. Job Hazards
- Daily use of ladder 6-8 ft.
- Job requires the ability to lift 50lb, stand/walk the majority of the workday, navigate small spaces, reach above for extended periods, see full color (Colorblindness makes it nearly impossible to terminate cable correctly). Work Attire
- Dress requirements of this job will vary slightly by location. We encourage employees to 'dress for your day'. Local business offices
- presentable jeans and polo or similar. New construction or similar
- Steel-toed boots, safety glasses & hi-vis vest required; jeans and a t-shirt/hoodie. Three company polo shirts are provided following new hire probationary period. Impact of Decisions
- Lead technicians, in conjunction with project manager, need to be able to decide cable paths for maximum efficiency and minimal disruption to customer site. Helpers are encouraged to be engaged in these conversations. Benefits
- The starting salary for this position is $16-18/Hr.
