RESIDENTIAL CABLE TECHNICIAN ROLE OVERVIEW
Signal Cable Inc. has openings for field technicians responsible for residential cable installation and service work. The position involves working directly at customer properties to establish new coaxial connections, investigate service problems, complete repairs, and maintain existing cable infrastructure. Technicians manage individual assignments throughout the workday and are expected to deliver reliable service while following technical specifications, safety procedures, and customer-service standards. This is a full-time W-2 employment opportunity within our telecommunications field operations.
DAILY FIELD ACTIVITIES A
typical workday may include new customer installations, scheduled service appointments, troubleshooting existing connections, replacing defective components, and completing preventive or corrective maintenance.
Responsibilities include:
Establish and service residential coaxial cable connections and associated equipment. Complete new installations according to applicable technical and customer requirements. Investigate signal, connectivity, and service-performance problems at customer locations. Determine the source of service issues and perform the necessary repair or corrective work. Inspect completed installations and verify that services are functioning properly before closing an assignment. Use ladders, hand tools, testing equipment, and mobile devices required for daily field operations. Enter completed jobs, materials, production activity, and other required information into company reporting systems. Address workmanship deficiencies identified through field inspections or quality-control reviews. Protect customer property and existing utility infrastructure while performing installation or repair work. Immediately report property damage, safety concerns, or unusual site conditions through the appropriate channels. Properly handle and maintain tools, materials, and equipment used during field assignments. Communicate delays, access problems, job status, and other relevant updates to field supervision. Provide respectful and professional service during every customer interaction. Follow OSHA requirements, company safety procedures, and any applicable project or customer-specific rules.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Previous experience in cable, broadband, telecommunications, residential installation, field service, or another hands-on technical environment is preferred. Candidates should be comfortable performing practical field work and using the equipment necessary to complete residential assignments.
The position requires:
Mechanical aptitude and confidence using common field tools and ladders. Ability to diagnose connectivity and service problems. Familiarity with smartphones, tablets, or handheld devices used for receiving and closing work orders. Good organization and time-management skills when handling multiple assignments. Ability to follow technical instructions and established installation procedures. Professional communication and customer-service skills. Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with field supervisors. Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving history.
TRANSPORTATION & FIELD READINESS
Technicians travel between customer locations throughout the workday and must have access to a truck, van, or SUV capable of transporting the required tools and equipment . Candidates are expected to maintain the appropriate tool set for assigned work and present themselves professionally when entering customer properties. Employment is subject to applicable background-screening and drug-testing requirements , where permitted by law. Work schedules may vary according to customer appointments, workload, and operational requirements.
HOW COMPENSATION WORKS
Technicians are compensated using a production-based pay structure . Earnings are determined primarily by the quantity and type of qualifying work completed, meaning individual production and available workload can directly affect total earnings. Technicians commonly earn the equivalent of approximately $24-$30 per hour , while higher production may result in greater earning potential. Typical earnings may range from approximately $1,500-$2,000 per week , depending on completed production, available assignments, and hours worked. These figures describe typical earning potential and are not a guarantee of a specific weekly income. As a W-2 position, compensation is administered in accordance with applicable federal and state requirements, including minimum-wage and overtime rules.
