83, Evergreen, AL Job Type Adjunct Job Number 08667 College/Division RSTC-209330-Diesel Mechanic Opening Date 10/04/2026 Closing Date 8/1/2027 2:00 PM Central Campus Location Reid State Technical College Description Benefits Position Summary The Adjunct Diesel Mechanics Instructor is responsible for planning, preparing, presenting, and evaluating assigned Diesel Mechanics credit instruction and related laboratory/shop activities in accordance with approved Alabama Community College System (ACCS} Plans of Instruction, College curriculum, and applicable program, industry, accreditation, and safety requirements. The adjunct instructor provides high-quality instruction, student support, assessment of student learning and skill attainment, and timely communication related to assigned courses. Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, online, dual enrollment, off-campus, and/or other instructional locations as assigned. This is a part-time adjunct faculty appointment. Teaching assignments are made by semester based on enrollment, instructor qualifications, course scheduling, and institutional need. Adjunct instructors are responsible for all scheduled instructional/contact hours and for completing the preparation, grading, communication, assessment, training, safety, and administrative responsibilities associated with assigned courses. An adjunct appointment does not guarantee a minimum teaching load or continued assignment in a future term.

The Adjunct Diesel Mechanics Instructor is responsible to the Dean of Instruction through the respective Division Chairperson. Essential Duties and Responsibilities At a minimum, the major responsibilities of the instructor shall include: 1. Plan, organize, and teach assigned Diesel Mechanics courses and laboratories/shops in the day, evening, weekend, online, dual enrollment, off-campus, or other approved formats and locations as assigned. 2. Maintain current professional competence in Diesel Mechanics and any licenses, certifications, registrations, or other credentials applicable to assigned courses. 3. Teach all courses according to approved ACCS course descriptions, Plans of Instruction, program outcomes, course syllabi, and institutional requirements. 4. Prepare and submit an accurate course syllabus for each assigned course by established deadlines and review course requirements, attendance expectations, evaluation procedures, safety rules, and professional standards with students. 5. Provide effective classroom, laboratory, shop, field, or work-based instruction as applicable to Diesel Mechanics and supervise students during assigned instructional activities. 6. Establish, teach, model, and enforce appropriate diesel-shop and vehicle/equipment safety procedures, appropriate personal protective equipment, safe use of tools and diagnostic equipment, and safe operation of engines and related systems; promptly report hazards, injuries, or equipment concerns through College procedures. 7. Help maintain diesel laboratories/shops, vehicles, engines, components, diagnostic equipment, tools, instructional equipment, consumable supplies, and learning spaces in an orderly and instructionally ready condition; promptly report equipment, tool, supply, or technology concerns through College procedures. 8. Use Canvas or the College-designated learning management system and other approved instructional technologies for course content, communication, grade reporting, and student support. 9. Maintain accurate and complete attendance, grade, assessment, credential-attainment, and other scholastic records and submit required reports by published deadlines. 10. Evaluate student learning and technical skill attainment fairly and consistently; provide prompt feedback; and document student progress, competencies, practical work, and outcomes as required. 11. Submit attendance verification, early alerts, failure-to-report, unofficial withdrawal, and other student­progress documentation when required by College procedures. 12. Hold assigned classes and final examinations, practical assessments, projects, or capstone activities as scheduled unless an approved change has been authorized. 13. Provide timely student consultation, instructional support, academic/career guidance within the scope of the adjunct assignment, and appropriate referrals to College student-support services. 14. Assist students, when appropriate to the assigned course, with understanding Diesel Mechanics program pathways, industry credentials, career opportunities, employment preparation, and program completion requirements. 15. Participate, when requested, in program, curriculum, Plan of Instruction, advisory committee, and student­learning-outcomes review and use assessment results and industry input for continuous improvement. 16. Support relationships with business, industry, employers, high schools, workforce partners, and other program stakeholders when requested as part of the instructional assignment. 17. Assist with student recruitment, retention, completion, career events, community outreach, open houses, and program marketing activities as assigned. 18. Recommend textbooks, digital resources, software, tools, equipment, supplies, library resources, and instructional technology appropriate to Diesel Mechanics through established College procedures when requested. 19. Assist the Division Chair with equipment, tool, supply, inventory, laboratory/shop, and Instructional-resource needs related to assigned courses when requested. 20. Participate in program advisory activities, program reviews, credential reporting, Perkins or other grant documentation, and institutional effectiveness activities as applicable to the adjunct assignment. 21. Participate in required adjunct orientation, training, meetings, and professional development applicable to assigned courses and instructional responsibilities. 22. Maintain familiarity with and comply with ACCS and College policies, program standards, applicable accreditation requirements, safety rules, accessibility expectations, and applicable laws and regulations. 23. Remain current in Diesel Mechanics, teaching methods, instructional technology, safety practices, and industry-recognized credentials relevant to assigned courses. 24. Demonstrate professional conduct, ethical behavior, integrity, collegiality, effective written and oral communication, and an industry-appropriate work ethic in all interactions. 25. Perform other duties consistent with the adjunct instructional assignment as assigned by the Division Chair, Dean of Instruction, President, or designee. Qualifications Required Qualifications 1. Associate degree or equivalent consisting of at least sixty (60) semester hours in a planned program, including the associate degree core. Uploading transcripts into application portal is required. Specialized coursework equivalent to the Diesel Mechanics community/technical college program, including coursework in Diesel Mechanics, Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment/Diesel Technology, or a closely related field. 3. Six (6) years of successful full-time experience as a practitioner in Diesel Mechanics or a directly related occupational, technical, or vocational field. 4. Competency demonstrated through successful completion of an approved occupational examination or approved industry certification within the timeframe required by ACCS Policy 605.02. 5. Ability to safely supervise students and operate, demonstrate, or oversee the tools, equipment, systems, machinery, laboratory/shop resources, and other technologies used in Diesel Mechanics instruction. 6. Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, employees, employers, and the public. 7. Ability to perform assigned instructional, assessment, communication, laboratory/shop, and administrative responsibilities independently and collaboratively. Preferred Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree or higher in Diesel Mechanics, Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment/Diesel Technology, or a closely related field. 2. Successful teaching or technical training experience in a community college, technical college, secondary CTE, apprenticeship, military, workforce, or industry setting. 3. Current industry-recognized certifications relevant to Diesel Mechanics. 4. Experience with Canvas LMS or a comparable learning management system and current instructional technologies. 5. Experience with program assessment, advisory committees, industry partnerships, student credential attainment, work-based learning, or student-success initiatives.
