The Heavy-Duty Diesel Trailer Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty trailers. This position ensures trailers are safe, reliable, roadworthy, and compliant with applicable transportation and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair heavy-duty trailers. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and air-brake system problems. Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled service inspections. Service and repair trailer systems, including: Brakes and air systems Suspension and landing gear Wheel-end assemblies Electrical and lighting systems Refrigeration units, when applicable Hydraulic systems and liftgates Doors, floors, frames, and body components Perform welding, fabrication, cutting, and structural repairs as needed. Complete DOT inspections and ensure equipment meets safety requirements. Document work performed, parts used, inspection results, and recommended repairs. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Follow company policies, OSHA requirements, and all applicable transportation regulations. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Two or more years of experience repairing heavy-duty trailers preferred. Strong knowledge of trailer systems, air brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, and suspension components. Ability to read wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and repair instructions. Proficiency using diagnostic equipment and standard mechanic tools. Welding and fabrication experience preferred. Valid driver's license required; commercial driver's license may be preferred. Ability to obtain or maintain DOT inspection certification, if required. Must provide personal hand tools appropriate for the position. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in confined spaces. Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions. Ability to work safely around heavy equipment, moving vehicles, lubricants, chemicals, and loud machinery.
